  • Off topic- Cubs dump manager David Ross and hire Craig Counsell from Brewers

Surprising move- Sources: Craig Counsell bolts Brewers to manage Cubs
The Cubs fired manager David Ross on Monday and hired Brewers manager Craig Counsell as his successor.

As a Brewers fan not surprised to see him leave and would never pay a manager 8million a year. He also struggled in the post season and is 1-9 in his last 10 games or close to it. Brewers offered him around 6 million a year. Guessing he didn't want to deal with the Brewers impending youth movement too

Interesting hire, seems like they over paid for someone that has not gone very far in the playoffs. They must be planning on spending a lot of money this off season.

This hiring is letting everyone know they are going for it all next season a d beyond. Teams do not pay a coach 8 mil and not load up with some players with star power!

Bring back Bellinger, sign Yamamoto, and trade for another younger/controllable starting pitcher and/or a lefty bat with your now highly rated farm system. Sign a mid level reliever or two to supplement bullpen depth and call it an offseason. They have the money and prospect capital, especially with the Stroman opt-out, to do big things this offseason. More of the highly rated prospects should be on their way at some point this year too.

None of those targets are unrealistic. Yamamoto will be the hardest one to get, followed by Bellinger as the bigger of these moves.

Counsell never had the big budget players with the Brewers to do much. His teams always seemed to overperform and be great situationally and with fundamentals. Always at their best last in the season too, sound familiar Bradley fans? 8 million a year should be nothing for the Cubs and I’m happy to have him as a fan!

Firing Ross should have happened before this season. He was a terrible in game manager and some of his decisions cost the Cubs a chance to make the playoffs. Counsell is a great hire. The Brewers front office really hamstrung him the last few years. At what the Cubs are paying him I don’t think that will be a problem.
