  • Civic center upgrades

I was speaking with someone that does security at the civic center and he told me they are upgrading the scoreboard and sound system, along with some other features. Is this true and if so, do any of you insiders have any details? Pretty excited if this is true, especially about the sound system that has been just terrible for years!

Yes: it is true. There was a list of items that money was allocated from Covid relief funding, 22-25 million. Roof repairs were a priority, but no money was allocated for replacement of refrigerant needed of ice for Riverman. I am not sure of the other items scheduled for repair.

Actually I believe the city council approved additional funding in addition to the Covid funding. This is mentioned in the attached article.

Very needed upgrade imo, I can understand about 20% of what comes over that sound system.

It is true but your post is untrue.

Councilman Denis Cyr put together a plan to issue bonds for the Civic Center to address most of a long list of issues, roof included. By this upcoming BU season there will be a new video board scoreboard, ribbon board around the arena, new sound system, etc. They are also replacing the lower bowl seats that retract under the concrete seats. I am unsure if that is planned to happen this offseason or next.

The ice plant is being redone next summer which will close Carver Arena for a solid 2-3 months.

Yes. You’re correct. I forgot about the deal about bonds for supporting the Rivermen.
