LeBron James' son Bronny James, collapsed on practice court and suffered cardiac arrest

Most people have probably heard this story already.... it involves the oldest son of LeBron James, who was a highly recruited 2023 player who is now an incoming freshman at USC. Yesterday, while practicing at USC, he collapsed and had a cardiac arrest. He was resuscitated and taken to a hospital, where he was stable but closely monitored. He remained in intensive care overnight, and is reportedly stable and out of the ICU this morning.

Ironically, just one year ago, another 5-star USC freshman basketball player had a similar cardiac arrest event while practicing during the preseason-

and also to Loyola Marymount"s Hank Gathers, Len Bias, several other college players, and a couple local high schoolers - Nick Knapp, and there was a Limestone HS kid.

When a similar cardiac arrest killed Bradley baseball player Phillip Kaiser in 2010, all other Bradley athletes were tested and that action may have possibly saved Bradley Basketball's Taylor Brown's life, as he was diagnosed with the same hypertrophic heart condition that can lead to cardiac arrest. Altho they say that sometimes even the most elaborate testing cannot predict all of these tragic incidences.

Correction... Taylor Brown's condition was a little different. He did not have hypertrophic heart condition (abnormally thick heart muscle). What he had was an exaggerated non-specific EKG variation that was interpreted as possibly being caused by a hypertrophic heart. He underwent evaluation by several heart specialists, and was cleared of the disorder, and OK'ed to play. Then, the BU President demanded another opinion by a Mayo Clinic doctor, who had Taylor sit out a year and "decondition" his heart to verify that the EKG variation was just due to an athlete's thickened heart muscle, whicheventually proved to be the case.
And Len Bias died of a cocaine overdose.

TB's heart was enlarged but not of the pathologic nature that would put him at the greatest risk. Bias did use cocaine but died of sudden cardiac arrest.

Again, merely pointing out that Len Bias' death is not similar to any of these other cases. His autopsy found that his heart was normal and healthy. He died of a large cocaine overdose that interrupted his heartbeat, a known effect of cocaine.
