Almar is one of the younger kids playing in this 2023 Nordic tournament, and will be one of the youngest next weekend in the FIBA European Championships. He just turned 18 on Dec. 28, 2022. Most of the players competing are 19 and 20, and there are also some who are 21 years old.
The U20 designation is open to all players 20 and younger as of Jan. 1st.

Last year as a 17-year old, he played in the FIBA U18 European Championships, and averaged 17.9 ppg and 10.7 rpg.

The U20 Nordic Championships named their FIVE MAN All-Tournament Team
(they call it the "five-man elite team")
and Almar Atlason "was selected for the tournament's five-man elite team ,,, chosen by the teams' coaches..."
The Iceland team won the Silver Medal.

-Saturday July 8 at 1:30pm local time (5:30am Illinois time, 8 hours time difference)-
-Sunday July 9 at 1:30pm local time (5:30am Illinois time)
-Monday July 10 at 6:30pm local time (10:30am Illinois time)
-Tuesday July 11 - no games as teams will be seeded for the knockout round of the tournament
-Wednesday July12 thru Sunday July 16- elimination (knockout round) games begin at 1:30pm but time will depend on where in Group D Iceland finishes
Spain is the favorite to win with Turkey 2nd favorite, with Iceland, Greece and Lithuania getting mentions.
Denmark, the team that knocked off Iceland in the U20 Nordic Championships, did not qualify and is not playing in the FIBA U20 European Championships.
