  • Jerrance Howard hired as assistant coach at SIU by Bryan Mullins

SIU Head Coach Bryan Mullins is hiring Jerrance Howard to fill the assistant coaching position on his staff. Jerrance resigned from his job as an assistant coach at Texas under head coach Chris Beard in August, 2022, and he has been without a job since then.
There were a few rumors about why he abruptly left Texas last year when he did not have another job to move to, but Jerrance has refused to comment on his reasons.

Jerrance had previously been an assistant at Kansas under Bill Self from 2013-2021.
The job on Mullins' staff opened when his assistant coach Pat Monaghan left to take an assistant coaching job at Green Bay under new head coach Sundance Wicks.

That's a big hire that should help them in recruiting. Hate to see it as SIU is always a thorn in our side. But for the conference as a whole it's a good thing.

It'll be interesting to see if he still has connections.

He still has connections and should be an asset to the SIU staff. I'm a bit surprised Illinois didn't try to get him back.

Reading between the lines, I'm guessing there is a reason he ended up at SIU and not P5

reports from last summer say he was "taken off the recruiting trail in June" then quietly resigned in August.and was
said to be "no longer with the program" and "wiped all UT references from his Twitter account and did not respond to a message seeking comment"

kinda sounds like he was fired for some cause

Still no official announcement by SIU regarding the rumored hiring of Jerrance Howard, though it could come Monday.
SIU also reportedly has a portal recruit visiting this weekend who is familiar to Bradley and the MVC, and they are expecting a commitment.

What an impressive resume Howard has.
My first BU hoops game was on 12/30/1963. My dad took me to watch the Braves defeat Arizona 67-59. He helped me get Coach Orsborn's autograph before the game.

Idk why he isn't a head coach somewhere, he definitely has the resume and talent for it. Hope he gets a good shot before too long if he wants it.

There was a time where he would have had to go backward financially to move up, and maybe that wasn't appealing to him. I'm assuming that his salary at SIU will be in the $150K range, so it would be a good place to move up from.
