But would that affect a deal with the NIL organization? Since it is separate from an actual Braves affiliated thing, does it matter? Maybe it would break some sort of rule, for whatever those are worth these days?

But he is not an official member of the team until he signs his letter of intent.

Is that necessary for NIL deals? It would make sense, I’m just not unaware of the rules. I suppose if not, the big boys could start getting kids deals in high school. Is that illegal I assume? But since it’s not officially tied to schools, how do they stop it?

It looks like Illinois high school kids can now get NIL money.

High school quarterbacks, swimmers, and shot-putters can start making money related to their athletic achievements. The IHSA Board of Governors has approved a new board policy that covers Name, Image and Likeness rules to earn compensation.

"High school quarterbacks, swimmers, and shot-putters can start making money related to their athletic achievements." I wonder how they came up with this? Anyone know the NIL rules?

I assumed that was just the author’s way of saying all high school athletes.

Very few college athletes from the non revenue sports will receive money. A few universities are nationally known for tennis, baseball, hockey, but some of those top athletes can go pro at age 18 and forget the college experience.

Demarion would sign when he gets to Peoria in August.

I’m assuming he will be to campus before August if he’s playing for the basketball team, with summer workouts and such.

But does anyone know, especially now with many states allowing NIL money to high school athletes when these college groups can start lining deals up for them? It just seems if athletes are allowed to collect in high school now, some of these top high schoolers that commit years early would get deals lined up with Universities early. Like a Bronny for example I’m sure could commit to a college and make money already, kind of like a prospect advertised a head of time. Might even be incentive for him to commit to a place if they have deals lined up already. I know the colleges aren’t technically tied to the deals though, so that makes even more wide open for this kind of stuff to happen. I’m just really confused about all the rules and how it all works.

I doubt that any NIL group that is affiliated with an NCAA school could deal with or give money to a high school kid. The NCAA has a lot of longstanding rules regarding recruiting violations for any individual or group affiliated with a school to get involved with a potential recruit.

Home of the Brave will never deal in the high school space.

Legally, as of 3/31/23 at 8:21 AM, collectives or businesses could sign any high school player in Illinois to endorse their brand. However it would point the NCAA laser directly at them.

Interesting, thanks for the info. It will be interesting to see how many schools are ethical in their approach with this, especially given many of these deals won't be tied to schools officially and I imagine they could claim they didn't know or have anything to do with it. Not that there hasn't always been underhanded dealings in NCAA sports, but this just seems to open up a lot of possibilities. I really wish it would just be paid contracts for athletes to go to schools rather than all this.

He can sign this April, my guess is april 12 or that week. I am hoping we can get at least 2 commitments before that date.

Tell me how this doesn't end up turning into an AAU team full of 1 school's NIL subjects all playing together for years before ending up at the same college. Seems very likely to me.

Yes, Demarion is eligible to sign an NLI starting Wednesday, April 12.

But, JMM28 was referring to when Demarion could sign an agreement with the HOTB NIL group. That can happen once he is officially enrolled as a student.

Yes that is the legal way of doing it unlike other places that are promising money before the student has enrolled and even on campus.
