Most of the valley players that went to bigger schools have played less minutes and do not start for their teams. I do not see Jones or Domask starting next season. I guess it comes down to what players are actually looking for when they leave a school that they were starters and end up not playing as much for their new one.

I can think of 4 or 5 ...out of the 80-100 or so players who have transferred from MVC teams the past 3-4 yrs
Reeves, Horne (altho now Horne is apparently unhappy & transferring again)
...maybe Robbins, but he's had to transfer a 2nd time over 3 more seasons to actually get notable success- yet
he still never played in the post-season like he certainly would have a few times at Drake.
    - maybe Tyreke Key, altho his playing time & scoring plummetted and he was not a regular starter.
Key went from being an MVC Player of the Year candidate, to being a reserve or 6th man.
LaRavia, is in the NBA but Wake didn't make the post-season & who's to say he wouldn't have gotten to the NBA at InSU?

but the vast majority who have transferred appear to have possiby fallen a bit short of stunning success..
Mosley flamed out at Mizzou, East wasn't even a starter, Roberts played on team that finished low in the standings,
Nolan, Kingsby, Price, Thomas, Gabriel & McAdoo all kinda disappeared, Kent rode the bench,
Yesufu played on a top team but ultimately was unhappy with playing time and is transferring again,
and almost all the rest from the MVC also kinda disappeared - guys that were top MVC players, Smits, Evelyn, Clay
and dozens of others.....etc ...were at best lateral moves...

Hard to say for sure, but seems to me they largely didn't get what would be expected from their portal experience.

That might just be the best case scenario for a new coach. Throw out the trash and start over. Teams have shown you can rebuild immediately through transfers and the portal.

However, he played much less this year, mostly due to injuries (only appeared in 9 games, 2.1 ppg) and with Valpo's head coach Matt Lottich let go, he has decided to transfer.

This leaves Valparaiso with just 6 scholarship players- Darius DeAveiro, Connor Barrett, Ibra Bayu, Emil Freese-Vilien, Joe Hedstrom, and Jerome Palm.
Whoever they hire will need to do a lot of work to rebuild that roster.
Valparaiso loses 2 more players from their depleted roster-- Little-used players Joe Hedstrom and Emil Freese-Vilien have decided to retire from basketball for medical reasons.

That now leaves Valpo with just 4 returning players for 2023-24, none of whom were starters. and who cumulatively averaged only about 10 points last season (Darius DeAveiro, Connor Barrett, Ibra Bayu, and Jerome Palm). They have two 2023 recruits signed, Canadian high schoolers Jahari Williamson, and Yanis Bamba, and they just got a commitment from a preferred walk-on (Weston Aigner).

Top athletes get $1-2 million, maybe more. Many in money sports at the big schools get $50-100K.
Almost all the rest get $1,000-10,000. Numbers are not widely being reported, there's no obligation to make the deals public.
But if anyone says players at the midmajor level are getting way, way more, then I would love to see any such evidence.

Interestingly, one of the only places some of the figures have been revealed is from this marketing firm Bloomberg reported on
    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...much#xj4y7vzkg
$900 million, split 100,000 ways with men's basketball getting 20%, works out to about $36K average across all of DI men's basketball.
But I doubt more than a few pct of mid-major players get above that average.
Agreed. It is heavily skewed towards the top. Both nationally, and on each team. It wouldn't surprise if most mid major starters were getting $10-$15k or so, with the star players getting $25-$30k. Real hard to guess though.

Glad to hear that. Thanks for the bit of insight.

This is great to hear JMM28! As a lifelong Bradley fan I am very appreciative of the group of 5 who took the initiative and time to set up (and provide seed money) for HOTB.
