  • I would think style wise the Big Ten makes the most sense. The Big Ten has some bigger guys, and Mast players a slower post style. Of course, I guess you could argue player against bigger guys might actually be worse for him and he wants to go to a smaller league, even if players are quicker than him. Wisconsin seems like such a perfect fit for him. A stronger, experienced post that can hit an open three and pass, but isn't the quickest. That fits their program perfectly. It is also only a three hour move, and he got to experience the arena. Seems too perfect to me.

    • I think he's getting good advice and will make a good choice.

Good luck, Rienk! I'll be rooting for you and Florida while you're there!
I won’t. I’m truly grateful for what he did at Bradley. If he would have gone pro or transferred because of academics then I have no problem. But, he’s leaving to find a better team. To me that’s the same as quitting. If the team was gonna be overhauled next year with a new coach and a bunch of new players, then I get it, but it’s not. With Mast Bradley starts the season as a borderline top 25 team, returning virtually the same roster. He decided to leave just when Bradley basketball is just on the verge of being special.

I thank Rienk for what he did here, but I won’t be rooting for him.

I think he left for the money and not a better team, but I guess only Rienk knows the answer to that question.

I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.

I am sure there are others. I've heard he has been contacted by over 60 schools, many of them high-majors.
I heard Fred Hoiberg was in Peoria visiting Reink last week... Mast has also been contacted by Wisconsin & Iowa State among many others from what I understand.

Those were pretty much the same sentiments I expressed about Terry Roberts last year, when he made it clear he was leaving to play at a higher level school. I think I said something to the effect don't let the door hit you in the a** on the way out. I think we are in the minority on this forum with those opinions. Which is OK. One of the reasons this is such a great forum is we can agree to disagree, and do so with civility. So, like Roberts, I certainly won't be wishing Rienk any ill, but nor will I be caring whether he does well.

I do wish Pop well. Not many players are happy riding the bench, and if I were Pop I'd want to go somewhere I'd see more playing time.

Sounds like a contradiction...rooting for Pop, but not for Rienk, but there's a clear distinction in my mind.

I'm still trying to get my head around this whole transfer portal situation, and what it does for our sport. Players are coming and going so fast there seems little to no loyalty to either the school or the fan base. I can see the day maybe coming where I won't care either. It's just a business now. Maybe just start driving over to Eureka and watching Division 3 ball.

Sure, they come to Peoria to poach talent but not play at Carver. NE is a downgrade.

                • Yes there is not much loyalty out there anymore, players pretty much follow the money. Back in my time I would have had a difficult time leaving my teammates to go elsewhere because of money. The portal and NIL are not good for college sports.

                  • I will be rooting for Mast next year. I have less issues with his transfer than others and especially Terry Roberts. Mast spent 4 years here and got his degree and graduated. Graduation is a natural time to move on and while I wish he would stay as someone who left after getting their degree it’s completely understandable.

This makes sense. Plus, Rienk's future success would reflect well on BU/MVC/BW/etc.

Same. He was here long enough to graduate with a physics degree, and contributed greatly to the program. He I wish he would stay, but I don't resent him for leaving. Its not a Granger situation where there was tampering, or a player just jumping ship for any reason. In this day and age, I will not fault a person for taking more money, especially when they aren't going to be assured of a great pro career where they can make a lot of money.

Yeah...I've been in college for a while now and I'm pretty sure that awesomest is not a word. -Andrew E.

                        • Not surprising with them moving to Big 12. Not sure Cincy will have a lot of fun in the Big 12 in the near future though.

                          • The head coach at Cincinnati is Wes Miller. There is no description other than he "was decked out in Cincy gear", so there is no way to know if it was Miller, or one of his assistants. It wouldn't have been Drew Adams. It would be an NCAA violation for Drew to be recruiting off campus, since his job right now is "Associate AD, Men's Basketball", which is a non-coaching, non-recruiting position.
Cincinnati was just eliminated from the NIT on Wednesday.

Cincinnati is reportedly recruiting another player from the portal- Tyler Nickel, a 6'7" freshman wing from North Carolina.

Nickel was a top 100 rated recruit, but played sparingly in his one year at UNC. He played in 25 games, but averaged only 6 minutes per game, 2.1 ppg, and 0.6 rpg.
