I’m curious about the decision to not redshirt Jonovic. He’s played 13 minutes and none in a while. Seems like the extra year would be more valuable.

I know in today’s world it’s way less likely it even matters to a current team (get what you can while you can), but still, in this case it seems pointless.

I also realize he provides big man depth, but in case of injury you could still change your mind and play him later. Now it’s a wasted eligibility year. It’s not like he’d be losing experience now in case in injury, cause he doesn’t play anyway. Also the 4/5 spot seems to be where we have the most depth anyway.

Is there something I’m missing on why he played right away instead of redshirting just to play a few minutes?

I would agree with red shirt. Coach was quoted recently saying he is ready to play, they are looking for the right opportunity to put him in. Not sure what that means.

Correct....Wardle said Jonovic is ready to play but he hasn't found to proper time to insert him like he's in the near future plans....maybe waiting for Mast and Hannah to get into foul trouble....isu game would have been perfect IMO.

I have it on good authority he can’t be redshirted due to starting at mid season. It was agreed he’d use a full year elig by coming to BU mid season regardless. Who knows we may very well need him yet.

id expect to see him in sometime soon.

That’s interesting if that indeed is a rule about mid year transfers, because I believe you don’t even have to declare a redshirt for a player right away, is that correct? As long as a player hasn’t played yet they can decide to redshirt at any point during the year. Once they play that can’t be done.

I really hope we clear the bench from the under 4 at least if the lead stays around 20. No need to risk an injury.

Yes. If he never played in any game, he would still be eligible to take a redshirt year. Football players do this much more often, enter at mid-year, and use the remainder of the season plus the summer to bulk up and prepare for college-level football. It is not common to see in basketball, but it happens occasionally. It's my understanding he and the coaches discussed the options, and both sides were agreeable to him being eligible and playing this season. As soon as he checked into his first game on January 4, his option to redshirt was eliminated.

I was under the impression Dub meant he was ineligible due to being a mid year transfer which I was unaware of such a rule. I feel like redshirts were more common before, but with the new rules why worry about where a player is four years from now. Chances are it won’t be with you anyway. Like I said, in this case 13 minutes plus 3-4 today doesn’t seem worth it. Barring injury, I can’t seeing him breaking into the rotation now in such a crucial stretch.

I suppose it does depend on the player too though, that’s a point I hadn’t thought of.
