  • BU MVC STREAK at 12

You guys know how I am with numbers and statistical lore in the BU record books!

I'm thinking the last time we had a 5-game Valley win streak (NOT including the post-season) was in the 2005-'06 season.
Does anyone know if there has been such a streak since then?

I would think maybe in 2019-'20 or 2006-'07, but if memory serves me correctly, in those seasons, their highest streak (in MVC) was 4.

I think we had a good stretch in 2000-'01 - the last time BU finished in the Top 3 (We were the #2 seed in Arch Madness), so we COULD have reached 5 that season.

DC usually knows the answer, but let's see if any of you other die-hards know!!

I would venture to say we haven't had a 7-game winning streak in the Valley since AP's senior season (1996-'97) where BU rattled off win after win to close out the season, and of course we did it the year prior - the last time BU took the MVC crown.

Hopefully we do it in 2022-'23!

Yes, those first couple were a little nerve-racking and frustrating, especially coming off the very frustrating Belmont game (imagine if we could have played better down the stretch in that one?), but since then we have had our best three game stretch of the year. I hope we keep it up, cause there are some tough ones ahead. If we play our best though, I think only Drake has the talent to beat us. SIU is really good too, and Belmont can shoot, but I think our overall talent is still better than both at our best (and our guards need to stay healthy because we don't have much depth there).

Funny, after the start of conference season everything looked surprising, but the preseason poll looks pretty good now. The top three are all there, the bottom four are all there as well.

There have been several 4-game MVC win streaks in recent years (2021-22, 2019-20, 2018-19, 2017-18, & 2008-09), but the last time Bradley won 5 straight MVC games was in the 2007-08 season.
That year, they won 6 straight games between Jan. 19, 2008 and Feb. 6, 2008-

Hard to believe some of Les' better teams weren't better in conference play, but the level of competition in the MVC was much higher then than it is now IMO. I remember that 5 game MVC losing streak to start the year, it was very frustrating, but all those teams were pretty darn good. Look that home attendance too, man I miss that.

Ya that was the team with Ruffin and Crouch as seniors, and we had Warren, Salley, Maniscalco. With all those names, that year was disappointing as a whole coming off those previous two years when, in my opinion, we were an at large level team both years (even though we didn't get in the second year). But look at that schedule too...Butler, Michigan State, a good Wright State team, VCU, Vanderbilt, Iowa State, Iowa, a ranked Drake team. We had built some momentum back before that Southern Illinois home loss (I believe it was on ESPN or ESPN 2) deflated us again. That three year stretch ending that year had some of my favorite players of all time. Fun times.

Agreed, and Crouch & Ruffin were dropping almost 20 ppg each that year. Didn't have much strength in the post though that year, but it was one of my favorite teams for sure. Creighton had players like Tolliver that made a difference in the post and drove their team past BU that year. Definitely a hard schedule and Michigan State game is one of my favorite BU memories of all time, despite the loss. The atmosphere was insane.

Wow - so 1 more win and we could match the streak from 16 seasons ago!
And then 1 more...you'd have to go all the way back to 1997!
8 straight and we're looking at early 90s likely.

BUT...1 game at a time guys!

That Michigan State home game was the best atmosphere I can remember at Carver. SRO and rocking.

I was in the front row of the student section. The mat over the ice I was standing on was literally vibrating at one point due to the volume in the arena. It was incredible.

I agree Fetz86. I think I only sat down for 5 minutes of that game. It you didn’t stand you weren’t seeing the game. The atmosphere was incredible. If I remember correctly we had a 9 point lead with about 4 minutes left and ended up losing by 3. Does anyone remember if Michigan State came in ranked #8 in the country at the time?

BU lost by 5, but it was pretty close, and MSU was ranked #9 I believe.

A win tomorrow night matches the Braves' 7-game Valley win streaks in both 1995-'96 and 1996-'97!

RE the Mich St. game...It was during the only stretch of time (2 weeks) that I wasn't following BU hoops in the last 30 years! I was busy that week finding an engagement ring and planning my proposal for my wife that took me away from watching, or following Bradley hoops. So I have no recollection of this game...sadly, or any other game the following week...I even went to the game at Loyola just a week earlier and was really into it!

I had NO CLUE of this fan site either, just having moved to Chicago from FL, and joined in 2010.

A very fun season with the inaugural CBI tourney vs. Tulsa, that we nearly won.

Streak in Valley season at 7!!!
This matches the 7-game win streaks in 1995-96 and ‘96-‘97!

One more win on Saturday and you’d have to go all the way back to when a pretty special #33 suited up for BU! (1987-‘88 season) when the Braves finished 15-2 in the MVC, and won their final 8 conf. games to win the reg. season, and then winning the MVC tourney vs the Redbirds.

How sweet would it be for both BU and Drake to be going for 10 game win streaks and the MVC regular season championship next sunday? Would be insane.
