This game makes me nervous.... I'd be tempted to take ISU and the points.

Seeing as how they almost beat us at home I'm not sure I'd consider this a trap game, but I get your point about having a letdown and I don't think we're going there overconfident based on the OT win in our last meeting.

We need to guard the back door much better this time around and most importantly, we can't send them to the line for 26 free throw attempts. I'm guessing Zek will be guarding Seneca Knight and he'll need to play the top defense we know he's capable of as this team matches up against us fairly well with their big backcourt. Let's hope we bring the 3 point shooting from Cedar Falls to Bloomington and we'll be fine.

In the ISU game at Bradley, ISU shot 57.1% (12-21) in the first half, 35.7% (10-28 ) in the second half, and 33.3% (3-9) in the overtime.
Their three point shooting was just 4-16 (25%) overall, 2-12 (16.7%) in the second half, and 0-2 (0%) in the overtime.

So Bradley figured out what ISU was doing to build their second half double-digit lead, made adjustments. defended better, and neutralized their offense in the second half and overtime of that first game.

I think Bradley will be better prepared defensively from the start this time. IMO, the only way Bradley loses this game is if they have a bad shooting night like they did at Drake (shot 38.3%), Murray State (34.5%), or the abysmal 32.1% against Liberty. If they can play defense and shoot like they did at UNI, they'll have their 5th win in a row.

Agreed. Also first half against ISU at Carver was like ISU had a luck charm, hitting shots they had no business hitting, and the refs were really bad that game as well with what happened at the end of the half, etc. BU should get a road win here.

I agree that Bradley will be better prepared. But we should not take lightly that ISU is generally playing better overall. They are streaky - so we could get the SIU effort or the Valpo effort. We’d all prefer the latter obviously.

Biz, you are correct. Illinois State has beaten both SIU and Belmont, but also lost to UIC and Valpo. An average team that has some pieces, and has shown some streaks of good three point shooting. They normally hit the boards well (heavily out rebounding BU the last game) and make their free throws.
They do play with heart, and I believe Coach Pedon will bring in the players to run his offensive system. They will be better the next couple of years.

This particular game though, I see BU winning by 8. Will be a tough, physical game.

ISU plays extremely hard, seems very durable mentally, and gets a lot out of who/what they have. Bradley is a better team in most key categories, but has not been consistent mentally until recently. This will be challenged in front of a hostile crowd.

If Bradley can keep up the mental toughness they've had recently, and do it in front of a hostile crowd, it is their game to win or lose. They certainly have what it takes to control the redbirds tip to buzzer. I'll be there rooting for that to happen.

2 things we did very badly in our last game against them was shoot FT's, 18-32, and not rebound. at all. We got outrebounded 44-25 which was our lowest total of the year, Thankfully we forced 24 turnovers which led to 17 fast break points and 23 points off of those turnovers. I would expect we'll rebound a lot better. Our FT shooting? I guess we'll see. As long as we play defense we'll be fine. And if it wouldn't be too much trouble, FEED MAST IN THE POST! Let's go to Normal and kick some Redbird ass.

Yeah, the rebound discrepancy was disturbing, but many, if not most of those rebounds for ISU were really lucky bounces or long rebounds from 3's. Still, some were just ISU out hustling us and that's what we need to make sure isn't happening on Wednesday.

I hope you are right, Da Coach. We have the full range of ideas about this game listed here on the topic. I have been listening to the post game shows. Coach Wardle says the Braves are maturing so we hopefully do not have that fear or anticipation of a letdown after we get ahead. I sure hope we get ahead and hold it. We need this game!

DC’s comments do sound bullish about our chances but there is one very big “if” :

“If they can…shoot like they did at UNI”

I agree here. If we shoot like at UNI we win going away. However that was a very special shooting day.

Yes, you are right Dub. That is why I felt pretty confident making that claim.

Bradley was 16-26, 61.5% at UNI this past Saturday. That was the second-highest three point percentage by any MVC team in any game this season. Only Illinois State's 61.9% (13-21) 3-point shooting in their 87-77 home win against Belmont on Dec. 4, 2022 was higher.
It was also the first time this season that Bradley has shot over 50% from three in any game this season.
