UIC won just their 2nd conference game with a 70-61 home win against Evansville. It was looking good early for the Purple Aces as they led by us much as 10 with 6:00 to go in the first half but UIC outscored them 13-4 the rest of the half to trail 30-29. The Flames were able to gradually extend the lead as they held Evansville to 9 points in the first 13:00 of the 2nd half and never looked back, leading by as much as 20. Evansville shot very poorly as they were just 22-66 overall, 4-21 from 3. UIC was 27-62, 6-26 from 3. Off the bench Steven Clay led the Flames with 17 points while Jace Carter had 15 points and 12 rebounds. For Evansville Kenny Strawbridge led them with 20. The Purple Aces have now lost 12 straight with their last win coming in a 73-61 win against Bellarmine.

Valpo led the whole game and was leading 56-46 with 9:00 left in the game when Drake started their push and got it down to 64-63 with 4:00 left. After 2 Valpo FT's made it 66-63 with 3:36 left the game went scoreless for the next 3:00 as both teams exchanged missed shots. Drake had the ball with :25 left when Tucker DeVries got fouled on a 3 point shot. He made all 3 to tie it up at 66, the first time the game had been tied. With :08 to go Ben Krikke committed a charging foul. DeVries then got called for a moving screen with :03 left and then Valpo's Nick Edwards rimmed out a 40 footer at the buzzer. The game changed when Krikke fouled out with 1:59 to go in overtime. Drake finally got their 1st lead of the game on an old fashioned 3 point play with :58 left. Coby King made a 12 footer with :39 seconds left to tie it at 73. DeVries got the ball inside but threw the ball away with :19 left. Valpo held for the last shot but all Valpo could get up was a contested 3 and the game went to double OT. After a King jumnper tied it up at 78 with 2:56 left Devries made a 25 footer for 3 to put Drake up for good. With :10 to go Roman Penn missed a Ft and Valpo's Nick Edwards brought it up court and was able to get off a step back but contested 3 that he missed and the ball game was over. DeVries had 32 points and 11 rebounds while Penn had 16 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. Krikke had 27 points and Maximus Nelson had 18, all from 3. He was 6-9 while the rest of team was 6-25. An unreal stat line from this game is that both Drake and Valpo were 25-65 overall. Drake was 10-23 from 3 and 25-33 from the FT line while Valpo was 20-22 from the FT line. At home Valpo was called for 26 fouls while Drake was called for just 15. After back to back double overtimes Drake has to go on the road on Tuesday as they play Murray State.

The play I just hated in the Valpo game was Krikke fouling Tucker on the 3-you just knew Tucker would make all 3. Krikke is a great player but you just can’t foul at that point. He played a great game and they would not have been close without him but that foul along with the charge he got in overtime killed Valpo. Having their worst shooter with the ball at the end of both overtime’s was also poor.

Drake seems to be hanging on by their fingernails in these games (except ours). They have had a ton of games go to overtime

I felt like valpo got screwed on a lot of calls at the end of the game and both overtimes.
