Another big W and another great defensive effort. Hickman not only playing great D on Born but looked like the Hickman we've been waiting for all season. We got a little sloppy at times but pulled it out. Also officiating seemed rough...again. Nice game boys.
Might have been the best first half that BU has played on the road this season. The 2nd half UNI brought it, shooting 54%, but could never get the lead as BU made enough shots to hold on. After getting challenged during a 2nd half timeout by Wardle Rienk Mast brought it, making 7 of his last 8 shots and played tougher defense. Him and Leons led BU with 18 points while Conner Hickman had his best game of the year as he scored 18 points, making 5-7 from 3, and played great defense against Bowen Born as he scored just 11 points. and had 3 steals. We ended up shooting 28-51 overall, 16-26 from 3. We didn't play a clean game as we had 15 turnovers and didn't play real clean on defense but in a place where we've really struggled it's good to get a W. Now go to Normal and kick some Redbird ass.
If that Hickman shows up (or at least 75% of that Hickman) then this team can compete with anyone. Our lack of guard depth still concerns me, especially when injury scares like today happen. Glad Hickman and Deen are ok, but we cannot afford to lose any of Zek, Deen, or Hickman. There is nothing behind them besides Ville, and he is not a starter. Davis is nice depth, but plays more like a forward more than a guard, as he doesn't dribble with the ball much.
I expected big things out of Hickman this year, and he has slumped, however what we saw tonight was hopefully a huge turnaround. If he gets going offensively, the 5 of Deen, Hick, Zek, Leons, Mast is as good as it gets in the league on both ends and I think could compete against bigger fish. Throw Henry in as the sixth man and late game defensive sub for Deen and that's pretty good. Davis, Hannah, and Ville are fine depth. Zek is starting to turn in to a go to guy from the perimeter like I wanted (that three he made from the corner was the shot of the game to me along with Leons three), and Leons finally seems more aggressive and confident at the end of games as well. Combine that with Deen and Mast, and a hopefully rejuvenated shooting option in Hickman, and I think we actually might have several end of game options. However, we always look better against less athletic teams like UNI, so we will see how it goes. Zek can be that guy against anyone though.
Great, great game from the starters, and for the second game in a row I thought the coaches had an excellent defensive game plan. Great week for the Braves to turn this season back around to a positive. They look way better than they did even a week or two ago. This team is finally starting to play like the contenders we all thought they should be. The Valley is still tight and this team still needs to take it game to game as we have seen all year, but this was a really nice win tonight from the starting five and the coaches.
That Drake game at home at the end of the year on senior night is shaping up to be very exciting. Big games this week first though at ISU and Murray St. at home. Hopefully this team has learned not to look past anyone, as it will only take one bad game to send a season back to disappointing results with the Valley race being so tight. Keep working and playing like this every game!
CAUTION!! BRADLEYBASKETBALL MAY BE BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH....My normal bp is 118/62. With 4 minute to go it was 162/68. Braves Win! bp 142/64
Great game. Keep it up, it's time to Peak.
Good to see them win on the road. Good job taking Born out of the game. Hopefully can clean up some of the bad turnovers. Really need to learn how to break a press.
After getting home from the game @ "frostbite falls" I watched the game from ESPN+ to see what I missed from the live game. The 2 announcers were very entertaing and had valid info on both teams players while bringing an excitement level to the game making it very entertaining. IMO possibly the best espn+ call of the Bradley season on TV. Nice job guys!
1. I take back anything negative I've ever said about Hickman. He was lights out from 3 and he was stuck in Born's face for the entire game. It got so bad for Born, that he was often unable to even get the ball and UNI actually made their runs against us without him on the court. Jacobsen even seemed to limit his minutes due to his ineffectiveness. Great job, Connor!
2. Rienk Mast does not have 2 bad halves in a row. He had an abysmal first half as far as scoring goes and couldn't miss in the second. This seems to be his MO. Guy is just a stud.
3. Team 3 point shooting was lights out. So nice to see a 3 go up and just expect it to go in. If not for the turnovers, this game would have been an absolute blowout.
4. Speaking of turnovers, if we had a weak spot (besides free throw shooting), it would be the turnovers from lazy passes that Joe mentioned earlier, especially during the press. Just no reason for it.
All in all, hard to complain about a road win at UNI. Been a long time since we've had one, and it felt pretty good to be there. Nice meeting BigMike and DublR for the first time, and the UNI fans are probably the nicest ones we've met on our road travels. Just too bad Drake pulled out the double overtime win, but hey, we held serve. Just gotta keep winning and everything else will take care of itself.

I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.

I always enjoy watching Bradley games a second and third time. Watching the live broadcast on pins and needles wondering if they are going to win or not. The second time around i can sit back and relax and watch the play of the game. I get a different perspective of how we played.
