  • NIT at-large?

Looking at who made the NIT last year the three lowest NET ratings for the final at larges were Oregon 76, Virginia 83, and St Bonaventure 85. https://www.cougcenter.com/2022/3/15...tion-explained

With out current NET of 77, with some chance to hopefully rise as we enter February it looks like we might have a decent chance at grabbing a bid. If anyone knows more about the NIT bid process please correct me.

How would you guys feel about making the NIT? Of course the big dance is always the goal but I would still be estatic about an important post season tournament.

Making the NIT would be a successful season. The goal should always be to make one of those two tournaments-- NIT or NCAA. Bradley's rich history and past success in the NIT should carry some extra weight when at-large bids are awarded.

If the conference regular season champion doesn't win the tournament it St. Louis, I believe they will be invited to the NIT. Otherwise, I believe the second place team in the conference standings will get an invite. Hopefully it is BU.

I'm sure every player and coach would say it's too early to even think or talk about the NIT, though that doesn't stop fans from doing it.
Not many mid-majors get at-large bids with NETs in the 70's or 80's. St. Bonaventure was an exception last year. They must have had a few fans on the selection committee.
The NCAA owns and runs the NIT now. Their at-large selection process is a little different than with the NCAA Tournament. They have a selection committee that uses a balloting procedure to select the at-large bids.

IMO, Bradley would have to finish in the top 3 in the league, advance to the semifinals of the MVC tournament, and have an NET under 70 to be considered. Even then it will depend on how many auto-bids get handed out to the teams that win their conferences, but fail to win their tournament and get an auto-bid to the NCAA. Those teams are guaranteed an auto-bid to the NIT, regardless of their NET rank.

I believe all regular conference champions get an automatic NIT bid if they don't get a bid to the NCAA Tournament. It's probable (based on history) that the Valley regular season champ won't also win the Valley Tournament so the NIT would need to take two Valley teams. Since it's unlikely that we'll win the Valley regular season we would need to win Arch Madness to get the automatic bid or probably go to the semifinals like DaCoach said to get the NIT at-large bid.

The Valley got 2(3) bids last year, UNI as the auto, Missouri State as an at-large(Belmont also got an at-large).
