I agree. I think that’s what another poster was referring to as the team being too robotic in another thread. And while I think we are a bit robotic at times it’s not so much the coaching as it is our personnel… we don’t have bucket getters like ur describing (hawk, AP)

I think he is trying to convey that most of the BU players are not individually talented enough to create their own shots like some other players in the MVC like DeVries & Born or previous players like AJ Green etc. Even looking back at previous BU teams, usually there was a player that could get a bucket when needed, like Crouch, Ruffin, Warren, Lemon, Brown, etc. The current team has to play within the system to be effective, which is usually fine, but there isn't a player that can truly spark the team by scoring just out of will and talent alone.

Drop a few dimes means get some baskets, not distribute. It would be nice to have a freshman SG that can come in, create his own shot, and get 6-8 pts a game in limited minutes.

It may have more than one meaning but I’ve always understood the term dropping dimes in basketball to be related to assists, as well. I think it originated from a dime being 10 assists but that may or not be accurate, but the term is often used for passes that go for alley oop dunks or other difficult passes from my past experience watching basketball.

DeMarion Burch is a terrific scorer in high school. But he is not a consistent and reliable perimeter shooter from what I'm told. He gets most of his points on drives and shooting while in motion. Those kinds of points aren't nearly as easy to get at the D1 level. Nonetheless, Bradley can really use a guy like that, as none of the current players are reliable scorers on driving the lane, shooting when coming around screens, or while on the move. Hickman is getting better at all those things, but everyone else seem to be mostly spot-up shooters who need space to get a good percentage shot. Good defensive teams like Drake yesterday, and the teams like Arkansas and Auburn with their big guards with long arms can negate the spot-up shooters.
So I'd like to see the Bradley coaches land at least one more shooter, maybe from the portal. But the reliable scorers who can create their own shots are not as easy to find. There are very few like that in the MVC. Recall that is what made Hersey Hawkins and Anthony Parker so good. They could hit shots just about anywhere on the court, on the move, and around screens, or take a defender to the hoop. I'm not suggesting Burch is like Hawkins or Parker, but Bradley needs a little more that type of offensive option.

Absolutely, I've been saying it for months. This team, even with Mast, needs three things, a driving wing who can score (hopefully Burch), a shooting wing, and a PG. A Jashon replacement would be icing on the cake. Deen is a solid player that I want back, but I wouldn't mind recruiting over him for PG too. We need somebody a little taller that shoots a little more consistently and isn't so erratic at times. So I'm still looking for a shooter and a point guard for this team even with everyone back (two people would have to leave of course, which I assume a couple will). Maybe Connor can keep improving enough to be a full time PG, but we cannot roll with just him and Deen next year. We got lucky neither of them got hurt much this year.

If Mast leaves, I hope Krikke would be open to coming here and not going to a higher level (assuming he transfers). He'd be a perfect replacement down low.

As you partially implied, development could solve some of these issues. Imagine what Malevy and Zek would look like with slightly better handles, or Connor with a 40% 3 point shot. Jonovic with more strength. If we some how found another Terry Roberts, or better yet Chris Roberts we could be very dangerous next year. I would love a Brodie type player, but maybe Jonovic can do that.

Dropping dimes in all my experience in basketball, and from everything I've ever heard refers to getting assists.

Regardless of what it means....I agree with you we need shooters or bucket getters badly.

Dropping dimes in basketball is another name for an assist. The term dropping dimes is when a difficult pass is made from one player to another.
