Disappointed that Wardle did not show more restraint when it was 48-45. The technical foul really swung momentum their way. Can’t let your emotions get the best of you…the wheels fell off after that.
I was disappointed too, it turned a bad situation into a worse one. The refs weren't exactly good, but they seemed to call it both ways for the majority of the night.
Deen got away with a flop there towards the end too. It happens, not every call is going to go our way.
We're a pretty good team against the Stonehills and UICs of the world. Right now, Bradley is just a 3M team.... mediocre mid major. Our next two road games, (Drake and ISBlue) will be the biggest games of the regular season. I hope they get their act together.
Murray State is a tough and physical team, they knew how to shut down our offense and out hustled us.
Mast was 1-7, Hickman 1-9, and Deen 2-11. We aren't going to win many games shooting like that.
One of our downfalls the past few years is that we do not respond well when we face a physical or fast paced team. We seem to really fall apart when facing a team outside of our own style of play.
Every time I want to get excited (UIC dominance) ... we do this.
A few things I want to call out:
We are just pathetic at times finishing at the rim. So many missed layups ... (6-14 according the stats)
Ville needs to be knocking down 2-3 3-pointers a game, otherwise, he's an absolute minus player with how slow he is on defense. Got beat for easy baskets at least 3 or 4 times. Zero 3-point attempts today. Need to see more Davis if this is how he's going to play.
Malevy, Duke and Connor go 3-20 from 3 PT land - we aren't beating almost anyone if that happens.
Mast scoring 3 points total - we definitely aren't winning. He was bullied around and got no help.
Zek can be out of control at times but he was actually pretty decent today, at least on offense.
It's incredibly frustrating watching the first four and the last four minutes of the game, where we actually showed effort (and hit a couple shots) and believe that this team isn't performing up to its potential. Strongly disagree with the sentiment that we are not as good as we expected. We have more than enough talent to win the league, we just have to start showing it.
That flop, was a flop. Wardle was right to be infuriated. Also you need to do something there to ignite the team, but even that didn't do anything.

I think what really set him off was that the call was only made by the official who was the farthest from the play. The call was made by the official standing in front of Wardle and the Bradley bench, not the closer officials with the best view. I actually think it might have been a good call, just made by the wrong official who really didn't have a great view.

Yes, this shart is getting real old... like a quarter of a century old. I'm not sure Bradley basketball will ever regain the respect, excitement and consistency it acheived in the '80s and early '90s. It's just sad, and I really feel sorry for the old-timers that might not live to see Bradley basketball become relevant again.
Seems like it has been a theme since I started following BU when I arrived as a student in 06'. I just don't get it.
BU has always seemed soft on the road for some reason, I'm not sure what it takes to fix this. It's like the only chance BU ever has is getting hot in March. Even the 06' S16 team didn't have a good regular MVC season.

That is a fair point. My other major problem with it is that the game was being called very loose. Lots of bumps all around were being let go. Henry barely extended his arm and the guy went down like he was punched.
I have watched numerous times back now. Still feel the same about it ...
Why is Hickman getting so many minutes....not hitting 3's, drives not scoring or loosing ball, wild passes but seems to have a green light whenever? Defense not working giving up the lane on double switches all night yet we never change it?
Good teams answer. Bradley has not all year on the road.
This team continually does not punch back when it gets punched. Murray went on a 20-3 run. That happenends sometimes. It’s how you respond. Consistently get rattled in tough spots.
Hickman. I don’t get it. He’s a fine player just not at the volume he’s getting
Someone needs to tell Leons he’s good at basketball as he continues to deflect when the team is stuck on a number.
Don’t let Hannah touch the ball outside the 3 point line, he seems uncomfortable and prone to turning the ball over.
Knitpicky and can agree both should only play in emergency but why Linke over Billew. In the limited run I’ve seen edge goes to Billew
The most frustrating part of this and the Belmont game is Bradley is better. And they didn’t show it. The more they don’t show it,m however. you are what your record is.
The most frustrating part to me is that the problems that we had today are always there, we are just usually good enough to overcome them. Free throw shooting, a go to scoring and/or shooting guard, turnovers, toughness, ability to draw fouls are usually problems. This seems like a fourth/fifth place team again, and if that's the case I'm not sure how we ever get to the top. It's been far too long.
Game observations:
Poor coaching decisions today: Linke in the game, Davis getting no minutes when his skills fit our weaknesses (coincidence we played our best ball when he was playing more?), Mast out far too long, Technical on Brian came at a bad time, taking Zek out early in second half when he was the only one scoring.
We have no go to scorer against athleticism. We have no go to three shooter we can count on. Deen is too small and Mast struggles against athleticism.
Leons finally went up strong instead of fading away at the end of the game and he go an and one. He HAS TO DO THIS MORE!!!
When three Braves got out-rebounded by one guy towards the end, that should be embarrassing to our guys. One of the most disappointing losses in quite some time.
Can I request one more time, as I do every game, please play Davis more!
Very frustrating game! So additional thoughts adding to what has been said above
2-6 away from Carver
Outscored 36-22 in paint and outrebounded 39-36 by smaller team
Familiar pattern in losses to Belmont and Murray - good lead squandered against short-handed team
Next 2 games won’t tell anything. Games at Drake and at Indiana State will tell a lot.
turnovers continue to be a problem.
was there a subconscious thought we’re playing new teams and thus shouldn’t be a problem? These are good programs in Belmont and Murray who clearly have something to prove
SIU has Domask stepping up and vets like Lance Jones who are tough players. They seem better equipped to play through adversity
Chad said it too that Bradley has a target as one of the league favorites and needs to understand teams are coming after them
none of the results matter until the tourney. But you can’t just rely on that either. Wardle is clearly frustrated. Playing teams like Auburn and Arkansas should have prepped them for this and so far it hasn’t
Why is Hickman getting so many minutes....not hitting 3's, drives not scoring or loosing ball, wild passes but seems to have a green light whenever? Defense not working giving up the lane on double switches all night yet we never change it?
I think subbing and playing time allocation have been the biggest complaints during Wardle's time here. It seems like he has a pre-set rotation in his mind of who will play. Instead of being proactive and changing lineups according to game situations, the only way he changes the rotation is if someone gets in foul trouble or makes a mistake then they get yanked out. Our team seems to play scared and lack toughness and I think this is why.
You are shooting well and scoring but make a mistake coach doesn't like? You are getting benched.
Pick up your second foul in the first half? You are getting benched the rest of the half.
That seems like the only way the rotation gets adjusted.
Hickman seems to be one of Wardle's favorites and has the most leeway with his play. I would have liked to see Davis come in for a few of his minutes and see what he can do.
One more thing......and I love Henry to death but after 5 years you should know by now lowering your shoulder is gonna be a charge, yet he gets 2 of these a game
...last night they were crucial....
