BU needs to get this one on the road. I know Belmont is a really hard place to play, not sure at Murray State. Either way, learning to win on the road is a must if BU wants a shot at winning the MVC this year. Great teams win nearly every home game, which BU is doing, but they also pick up a lot of road wins.

Is anyone from here going or has anyone been to Murray before?

I hope to go in future years, but not this year. It's the only MVC venue I have not visited.
It's a 350+ mile drive from Peoria, but it is almost all Interstate, and the weather should be good.

DC, what are your favorite venues in the MVC? Maybe a list for just the facility itself and another for atmosphere.

Counting all the non-conference games and tournaments I have had the good fortune to visit over the years, I've been to over 100 different venues, and I really have never had a bad experience with a venue that I can remember, other than occasional rude and obnoxious fans (I think most Bradley fans know which fans I am talking about ).

My likes and dislikes here refer only to the physical venue, and not the opponents...

Before they left the MVC, Wichita State was an awesome venue, because it was designed just for basketball, they sold out every game, and had rabid fan support.
I love visiting the older, well-maintained venues like SIU arena (now the Banterra Center), and other basketball-only arenas like the Hulman Center (Indiana State), where even the worst seats are better than many of the seats at Carver Arena.

The general-use, municipal type arenas are among the worst venues. Unfortunately, Carver Arena fits that definition, as does the Ford Center in Evansville. And the other least favorites are the bleacher-seat gymnasiums like Valparaiso and Loyola's Gentile Center.

Loyola was a terrible venue. Weird shape and some seats were blocked by railings or beams with too many bleacher seats. I hated that place almost as much as I hated the team (I did like Krutwig and Moser seemed to be a classy guy as did many of the other players, but man, I just hated their fans).

On a side note, it goes without saying (though I'm still saying it) that ISU Red fans are the worst fans in the Valley, at least in my humble opinion. Rude and uninformed. Valpo was probably the friendliest fans we've run into, though we haven't been everywhere yet.

Hope to get a chance to take a road trip to Murray State next time around, so hope more of the forum family can do the same and we can all meet up.

I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.

I agree. Loyola is worse than most of the suburban high school gyms. No parking. Almost all the seats are bleachers. However, fans pack the place, it’s loud, and it’s definitely a home court advantage. However, if there are not enough fans in the seats at the Civic Center, I would support moving back on campus at RC. I realize parking would be a challenge

Tommy- I have been to both Loyola and Valpo every year since each has been in the MVC and I will agree 100% with you on the Valpo fans. They were nice and treated the opposing fans as if they appreciated them and fully respected them.

But I disagree a bit about Loyola. Most of the seats are between the baselines and are pretty decent and all the lower bowl seats are comfy chair seats. There are bench seats in the upper arena. But where I do disagree is that I have found the large majority of Loyola fans that I encountered at their arena were pleasant and friendly. However, a few Loyola fans I have encountered on social media and elsewhere have turned me a little bit against them. For all their boasting and trash talking about the MVC and even about Bradley specifically, now they are among the worst teams in the A-10, with both RPI and SOS up around 300! There's really only 1 or 2 teams in the MVC with numbers that bad....karma

BU is #61 NET today. A win at Murray puts us in the 50s.

I've been to SIU before the remodel but not since, Horton and Redbird Arena, the UNI Dome and the McLeod Center, the old Vets Auditorium where Drake played and a few times to the Knapp center. They just remodeled the Knapp Center so I would like to see the changes.
The UNI Dome is probably the strangest venue I've ever been in for a basketball game. This was back when UNI would get a couple thousand for a game and then plop a basketball court inside a football stadium. It was just a weird environment.

Have found the parking and fans to be unwelcoming at Loyola on several unfortunate occasions, without any prompting. My buddy even slipped on a patch of frozen urine walking from the parking deck to the arena.... only to be informed moments later by a Loyola fan that Bradley totally sucks and we shouldn't have made the drive up. Onward and upward! It's nice to see BU listed ahead of such big name schools as Iowa, NC State, Michigan State, Michigan -- even if it will be harder for us to climb higher than it will be for the "Power 5" schools. Just keep winning, Braves. It's way past time for an MVC regular season title!
