  • OT Where is/was this

Sorry, I didn't know where else to put this.

    One reply says-
"My mom worked at velvet freeze main and university 1970ish. There was one on forest hill also"

I lived near Main and University in 1970, and I vaguely recall that there was a Velvet Freeze somewhere near there, but I don't know the exact location.
I do not recall it looking like that photo with the large ice cream cone on a pole.

I lived on N. University in the late 50’s and early 60’s, and worked at the record shop next to the Velvet Freeze on the corner of Main and University in the same building that Avanti’s just closed. Had a Wonder Dog with chili and mustard 3 or 4 times a week, with a Velvet Freeze ice cream cone for dessert. Those were truly the good old days!!

The Velvet Freeze location was where the Avanti's building is now. I got an autograph from Bob Ortegel, not sure about that spelling, while I was ordering some hot dogs there one night

My first check from my first job was from Peo. Heights Library and I spent all on two wonder dogs, hot fudge sundae, and a root beer. Good old days for sure.

I loved that library! I went to peoria woodruff high and would routinely use it for projects.

This building looks very similar to the Squeaky Clean Laundromat located behind the World Cafe restaurant at Main St. and University. Across from the now closed Avanti's.

Thanks coach... current google street view has a truck blocking the front of the building. Could this be the building in question?

The one with the truck blocking is from the northbound lane. If you move to the southbound lane, there is no obstruction.

And to me, the Velvet Freeze looks like it's a different building.

If I remember correctly there was A Velvet Freeze on Prospect in Peoria Heights. I only went in there once when I was a kid but I do remember ordering the chili dogs.
