Davis looked much less tentative last night than he did in the last few games. I also thought his defense was much improved. I still think this team will be better with Zek back in the starting lineup, but Davis will be a valuable reserve.
Speaking of defense, Bradley's team defense was terrific last night. UNI was averaging 75.8 points per game in their first 5 games, and Bradley held them to 53, more than 20 points below their average. And many of the shots they did make were well defended, or from beyond the 3-point line. Coming into last night's game, UNI was shooting 47.2% overall, and Bradley held them to 18-51 (35.3%). Bradley has now yielded an average of 62.3 ppg, which ranks 3rd in the MVC, just slightly behind SIU and MSU.
And I agree about Duke. He was fearless last night. He played 35 minutes and had only 1 turnover. That is great, considering the tempo he plays at, and the fact that UNI threw a bunch of different defensive schemes at him, including double-teaming beyond the 3-point line in an attempt to get him to pass the ball off. Duke was able to easily dribble away and lose the double-teaming. And like Davis, Duke looked much more confident in taking his shots. I sometimes think he might do a little too much dribbling, but it all worked great last night.
