The first game of the double-header is the Bradley women's team (0-2) hosting McNeese State (1-1) at 12 noon. The Bradley women play a game tonight (Wednesday, Nov. 16) at Wisconsin, and the McNeese State women also play a game tonight (Wednesday, Nov. 16) at Illinois, before meeting Saturday at noon. Bradley and SEMO have played 11 times before, and Bradley leads the series 9-2 (page 96 here). Bradley has won the last 7 games, the most recent was Nov. 10, 2018 when Bradley won 68-57. It was the 3rd game in a 3-game series, 2 at Carver Arena, and one at SEMO.
Southeast Missouri State was always known as the Indians, until 2004, when they dropped the Indians name and all references to native Americans. Since January, 2005 they have been known as the Redhawks.

SEMO is no longer a pushover opponent like they have been for most of the last three decades. They finished 4th in the Ohio Valley Conference last season, behind Murray State, Belmont, and Morehead State. And they were picked 4th in the 2022-23 OVC preseason poll, and even got a couple 1st place votes.
And they had 2 players picked to the Preseason All-OVC team- Phillip Russell and Chris Harris.

Here is their historical record since becoming a Division I school in 1991. Their only NCAA appearance was in 2000 under former Drake head coach Gary Garner-

SEMO is coached by former Southern Illinois player and assistant coach Brad Korn, and one of his assistant coaches is also a former MVC player- Keith Pickens who played at Missouri State.
Their roster includes 6 transfers from other 4-year colleges, as well as 3 junior college transfers.
They also have a player from the Netherlands, 7', 250 pound center David Idada, who has not played yet in any games, so he might be redshirting.

    Schedule/results- https://semoredhawks.com/sports/mens...tball/schedule

Their top scorer so far is a former Bradley recruit 5'10" sophomore point guard Phillip Russell from St. Louis Vashon HS, who is averaging 17.0 ppg through their first 2 games.-
    https://www.bradleyfans.com/forum/sp...ge9#post492340
Other starters are redshirt junior guard Chris Harris (11.5 ppg, 5.0 rpg), 6'6" sophomore forward Kobe Clark (8.0 ppg, 12.0 rpg), 6'3" sophomore guard Aquan Smart (7.5 ppg, 2.5 rpg), and 6'9" senior center Nate Johnson (5.5 ppg, 3.5 rpg). Top reserves include 6'7" junior forward Josh Earley (10.0 ppg, 10.0 rpg),
and 6'9" redshirt forward Adam Larson (7.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg).
They are not a very good three point shooting team, so far. They are shooting 30.5% as a team through their 2 games.

The 2023 class of the Bradley Hall of Fame includes the 2005-2006 Bradley men's team, coached by Jim Les, along with assistants Chuck Buescher, Eric Buescher, and Lennox Forrester, and DBO Kyle Vogt. Players included Saihou Jassey, Ray Brown, Will Franklin, Tony Bennett, J.J. Tauai, Patrick O'Bryant, Jeremy Crouch, Marcellus Sommerville, Daniel Ruffin, Zach Andrews, Lawrence Wright, Danny Adams, Brian Lavin, Sam Singh, and Brandyn Heemskerk.
They will be enshrined into the Hall of Fame with a halftime ceremony during the men's game, and most of the players, coaches, and support staff including Coach Les, will be in attendance. Former Bradley golfer Bari Erais will also be inducted.
Following the halftime induction ceremony, the Bradley Braves Club will host a special Hall of Fame banquet, presented by Busey Bank, at the Peoria Civic Center's fourth-floor banquet facility, beginning with a cocktail hour that will precede the 6 o'clock dinner program to spotlight Erais and the 2005-06 Men's Basketball squad.
There are still some Banquet tickets available for $50 each and can be purchased through BradleyBraves.com or through the Bradley Athletics Ticket Office (309-677-2625). This should be a terrific event!

Coach, any chance Hersey will be in attendance?

I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.

Hersey was not a part of that 2005-2006 team, so I doubt he will be there. Hersey had his great career at Bradley from 1984-1988, followed by a 14 year NBA career.
Hersey has been the Director of Player Development for the NBA Portland Trailblazers for the last 13+ years, so he lives and works in Portland-

So likely Hersey will not be there. But we have not heard any list of specific attendees, except there was an announcement that Jim Les would attend.

Thanks. I came across a few other tidbits of information about SEMO. Here is one-

Quiz- can anyone name the only 2 players from SEMO to ever play in the NBA? (probably nobody can get this without deep research)

They had a guy named Cleveland that had a cup of coffee in the league a few years ago.

Cleveland is correct. Here is the full answer-

Antonius Cleveland played at SEMO from 2013-2017, then played 2 seasons in the NBA, 2017-18 and 2019-20, for the Dallas Mavericks and Atlanta Hawks, seeing very little action. He has played the last couple seasons in the Australian NBL.

              Bio- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonius_Cleveland

Rich Eichorst- played in only one NBA game. After a very good career at Southeast Missouri State College (1952-56) and a stint in the army, he returned to his high school, Hancock HS in St. Louis as a teacher, athletic director, and basketball and track coach. At the end of the 1961-62 season, the NBA St. Louis Hawks were short on players and invited Eichorst to join the team for their final game. He agreed and got 10 minutes of playing time against the LA Lakers, and scored 2 points on one field goal.

Rich Eichorst went on to a career as an official in the old AFL, then the NFL. But then he retired from NFL officiating after the 1970 season, and continued with a long career as a college basketball official. He continued officiating Big 12 and MVC games for several decades, and I recall him as an official for numerous Bradley games in the 1970's and 1980's.
He is in the SEMO Athletics Hall of Fame-

Was Biliew a coaches decision not to play today or was he out too? Seems odd he didn’t play at all.

Nice job by the team in a tough spot. I’m still worried about our wing depth and making threes consistently until Montgomery and Hickman are both back, but we can’t argue with our post depth.

                    Two huge positives to me:

                    1. I love Deen as a PG. He generally is under control, but still can get to the hoop. Hits the threes when needed, yet still looks to pass. He is a little undersized on defense at times, but still does pretty well overall.

                    2. Leons taking charge and looking to score in big moments more than I’ve ever seen him outside of maybe the ISU game last year. He needs to do that more. He was looking to score on several possessions.

Coach said Henry has another concussion and was really upset about it - basically didn't even want to be interviewed. "My mind is in another place right now."

JaShon just can't catch a break, nor can this team ... all the best to him.
                        Go Braves!

That was a gutsy win. Hope this was not the last game of JaShon's career.

What a huge blow to lose JaShon. Seemed to me it could have been called a flagrant on the play. If I remember correctly that’s almost exactly how he got the first concussion. This team just can’t catch a break. I will say that this team really showed a lot of heart down the stretch to hold on for the win.

I'm at the Braves Club banquet for the 2005-06 team. Every team member is here except Zach Andrews, who is working as a stunt double on a basketball movie out in Hollywood.
I tried finding out more about Ja'Shon, but nobody can say right now. He will be evaluated further before a decision is made.
Connor could have played if absolutely needed. So he should be 100% by next Tuesday, when Bradley plays Auburn.
SEMO was only a 31% three point shooting team, so we all knew they couldn't keep up their hot shooting. They were 7-11 in the first half (64%) and Bradley held them to 1-10 (10%) in the second half.
The Bradley guys played very well, never got discouraged, took the lead late in the first half, and never looked back.
Duke Deen (31 minutes) and Pop Weather's (24 min) were terrific. Each had just 1 turnover, and the team shot 50%. Everyone else played well.
Let's hope everyone gets healthy quickly and stays healthy.
                              .
