Drake started 4 guards and Darnell Brody! DeVries is out of the boot and played well.

Tucker DeVries' foot injury must not have been serious. He played 25 minutes last night, and was Drake's leading scorer with 22 points.
Preseason All-MVC (3rd team) D.J. Wilkins is coming off an ACL repair from an injury in their last regular season game in February. He played only 6 minutes.

Drake's Achilles heal appears to be lack of depth at center/power forward.

Drake is the team to beat in the MVC, but they might have some depth issues beyond their big men. They have the best and most experienced starters in the MVC, but with guards Roman Penn out, and D.J. Wilkins limited, and forward Issa Samake still rehabbing a knee injury, they are not deep at the guard or forward positions. Against IUPUI, they started redshirt-freshman Connor Enright at point guard, who was playing in his first college game. And their backup shooting guard was another redshirt-freshman Bryceson Burns, who also was playing in his first D1 game.
The lack of depth could have an effect later in the season against tougher opponents, especially if they get any more injuries or get into foul trouble in games.
Playing 4 guards for nearly the entire game might also be a liability against future teams. Drake's coach was concerned about giving up 18 offensive rebounds to D2 Minnesota-Duluth in their exhibition game last week, and they also gave up 13 offensive rebounds last night to IUPUI, one of the worst teams in Division I (IUPUI is ranked 363 and dead last in Kenpom)
Drake does have a favorable schedule in the month of November. They have 3 home games, and 3 games in the Paradise Jam. They do not play a true road game until their first MVC game November 30 at Indiana State.
