funny how everyone here kinda thought this would happen, now waiting for McCollum to Iowa, but his team is still playing.

        • There are reports that DeVries contract is worth $7 million for 6 years at Indiana, plus IU will pay his buyout at West Virginia said to be $4.6 to $6 million.
Indiana has somewhere between $8 an $10 million of NIL money annually, and the deal with DeVries will give his son Tucker $2 million of NIL.

He will reportedly now be the 4th highest paid coach in the country. Not bad for a coach who has never won an NCAA Tournament game.
Indiana generates among the highest basketball revenues of any school. - https://x.com/ScottDochterman/status...30513701187770
That $31 million/year figure probably doesn't include most donations and other alumni support that goes to the Athletic Department general budget, but are derived mostly from basketball.

Insane amount of money for a relatively new head coach. Will all that money comes a lot of pressure to perform, but he just guaranteed him and his son to be set for life.

Also he does have 1 NCAA win (although First Four) in 2021 vs Wichita State.

No school has ever come calling for BW. Of course, maybe they have expressed interest by extending "feelers," but BW just wasn't interested in moving to another school.
My first BU hoops game was on 12/30/1963. My dad took me to watch the Braves defeat Arizona 67-59. He helped me get Coach Orsborn's autograph before the game.

              • Of course we all wish Wardle would stay for a long time yet. But as they say nothing lasts forever. Eventually he will move on. If I were Dr. Reynolds I would have candidates in mind for when that day does come. They all will not pan out, but keep in mind the day will come. As stated before, hope not for a long time.

agreed, and some Hoosier fans are a little skeptical...altho hopeful

First, he didn't make the NCAA this year and the excuse was that he was missing one player who was injured.
(We've been told a zillion times, you can't use injuries as an excuse/ JL was fired when his best 2 players were out all season with injury
(Maniscalco, Taylor Brown) and his best big man was lost for the Tourney.

and as noted he doesn't really have a record of success in the post-season. In his 3 NCAA's , a CIT and a CBI, the only two wins he has
are a First Four win and an opening round win over a nobody in the CBI. Total post-season record 2-5. and in his 6 years in the MVC,
he never won the league outright. But if he's really getting $7 mil/yr and his kid gets a couple mil, too, then he's set for life.

I'm truly surprised Indiana went this route. Especially after the Archie Miller era. I thought for sure it would be the Iowa St head coach or someone else with a history of winning.

To be fair, he was missing the best player on the team, Tucker DeVries. He did a pretty good job of coaching in his first year at WVU, with a nearly entirely new roster made up of late recruits and transfers.

For that money I would have guessed someone with a more proven track record.

                          • McNeese State head coach Will Wade has been in talks with North Carolina State about becoming their new head coach - https://sports.yahoo.com/college-bas...201048517.html

Wade had successful runs at Chattanooga, VCU, and LSU, but then in 2019, he was caught on an FBI wire-tap discussing a "strong-ass offer" made to a recruit (his words, not mine). He was suspended, had his salary cut, but was eventually reinstated by LSU and coached 3 more seasons. But in March, 2022, the FBI served LSU with notice of multiple additional violations, and he was fired.
He was then hired by a perennial losing program at McNeese State in 2023, and has lead them to back-to-back Southland Conference Championships and NCAA appearances. His record at McNeese is 57-10 in 2 seasons. McNeese hadn't had a winning season since 2012.
