Seems like a good choice, though not exactly the "home run hire" that some SIU fans were expecting.
Was it worth going through a complete rebuild? Time will tell.
It will be interesting if the two coaches meet again...
For the record, Illinois State did a long investigation into this accusation of a fan allegedly using a "racial slur" (allegedly the "N" word) at Norfolk State player Jamarii Thomas at a game at CEFCU Arena back on December 9, 2023. They identified 50 spectators in the vicinity that the alleged slur came from, and interviewed 47 of them. In the end, they were not able to verify that it actually happened. The Norfolk State head coach Robert Jones still alleges that it did happen, though I don't see how he can be so sure, since the incident occurred across the floor from where the Norfolk State bench was located, crowd noise was at a maximum, and he admitted later that he did not hear it, and only reacted when his player told him what he believed he heard. Jones approached Illinois State head coach Ryan Pedon and yelled that his player was called the "N" word, and Pedon screamed back that he is entitled to a loud home crowd advantage. However, later Pedon apologized for his reaction, claiming he did not hear what Jones was mad about and though he was just angry that Pedon was not quieting the crowd.
The result of the investigation was made public nearly 2 months later - https://www.wglt.org/local-news/2024...on-field-house

Jones is still angry about the incident, and that Pedon's apology did not include an apology for the alleged racial slur itself. In this YouTube video (about the 1:50 mark), he expressed his anger at Ryan Pedon and Illinois State , and says, "I can't respect that, and I probably will never never talk to him".

Also in this video, the sports reporter mentions that there was another incident back in the 2011-12 season when a Norfolk State player was called a racial slur by an Illinois State player at Redbird Arena.
Florida’s only public historically Black university announced that it will not renew Robert McCullum’s contract, which expires at the end of June.
My first BU hoops game was on 12/30/1963. My dad took me to watch the Braves defeat Arizona 67-59. He helped me get Coach Orsborn's autograph before the game.
I saw the interview with Dan Monson, coach of Long Beach State, describing his life now as the episode of Seinfeld, where George tries to get fired everyday, but still shows up for work. Amazingly, he got fired and won the conference tournament. You can access it from YouTube
Another strange firing- SMU fired Rob Lanier. He was head coach only 2 seasons, and was 20-13 this year losing in the NIT Wednesday night to Indiana State. Seems they could have given him a little more time. - https://twitter.com/GoodmanHoops/sta...83305950552562

Something I read said they are looking for a more experienced coach to help with ACC transition.
Will Calipari get added to the list? Rumors were that the seat was warming up. Losing to Oakland in the first round could be gasoline.
I think this could be a distinct possibility. He missed the field in 2021, lost to a 15 seed in 22, only got one win over an 11 seed in 2023 and now lost to a 14 seed. Kentucky hasn't had an actual NCAA run since 2019 (E8 ), and haven't seen a final four in almost a decade. I think many of the fans are frustrated and do not believe Calipari can actually coach, and with the changes to the landscape in college basketball, they do not believe the talent he brings in is enough to translate to success in the tournament anymore. I doubt Calipari will lose his job after this year, but if he were to lay an egg in next years tournament again I think the possibility of his departure could be pretty high at that point.
