  • University of Pennsylvania head basketball coach Steve Donahue is out after nine seasons, the school announced Monday. The Quakers, whose season ended with 95-71 loss to Princeton, finished 8-19 overall, 4-10 in the league.
My first BU hoops game was on 12/30/1963. My dad took me to watch the Braves defeat Arizona 67-59. He helped me get Coach Orsborn's autograph before the game.

    • There are about to be a lot of new coaching vacancies over the next couple weeks.

Here is an interesting list of the Top 3 Coaches on the Hot Seat - https://www.sportskeeda.com/college-...-steve-pikiell

There are a lot of other articles speculating on what coaches will be getting fired, so don't put too much weight on one guy's opinion.
But note that his #1 coach on the "hot seat" is Steve Pikiell at Rutgers. Rutgers started the season ranked # 25 in the AP Top 25, and rose to # 24, before their season started downhill. He has two of the top 3 freshmen in the class of 2024 (Dylan Harper & Ace Bailey), and they were expected to be much better than they have turned out to be. They were picked to finish 7th in the 18-team Big Ten this year. That preseason poll placed Rutgers ahead of teams like Wisconsin, Maryland, and Michigan, all of which are now at the top of the Big Ten, while Rutgers (8-12) is in 11th place going into the final weekend, and they are just 1 game away from finishing as low as 16th.
To make matters worse, Pikiell's two top players, Harper and Bailey, are expected to declare for this year's NBA Draft, and they are favorites to be picked in the top-3 lottery selections.

So if Rutgers decides to go with a new coaching staff, what might that mean for the other players on the roster? As we know, one of the players has Peoria connections, and chose Rutgers because of the coaching staff. - https://rutgerswire.usatoday.com/202...all-this-week/

That would be tremendous if he followed in his dad's footsteps.

        • ESPN article that mentions Iowa possibly moving on from Fran McCaffery. The two potential candidates they mention are Darian DeVries of West Virginia (formerly of Drake) and Ben McCollum (currently of Drake) - https://www.espn.com/mens-college-ba...s%20candidates.

By the way, Marcellus Sommerville was inducted into the Missouri Valley Conference Hall of Fame this past weekend in St. Louis.
Congratulations to Cellus, one of Bradley's all-time greats! - https://x.com/BradleyUMBB/status/1898101533113282944

          • If Rutgers does part ways with their coach, wonder if Lathan Sommerville would consider entering the portal and maybe commit to BU. Know the BU coaches were on him hard to come to Bradley. So maybe just maybe it might happen. If that were to happen he would be an immediate starter with everybody we are losing on this year's team. We shall see what happens.

            • Dave - here's a recent opinion article.... LINK
He believes the Rutgers head coach Steve Pikiell is not going to be fired, and Pikiell does have a fine 2025 recruiting class coming in,
that is ranked in the 30-40's range in all of Division I basketball.
.....but he does note that the current Rutgers University President will step down shortly and his successor is to be named in April.
We know how that went here in Peoria.

If he truly has eligibility he could do really well in the Valley, but his ego won't allow it.

he has played in four seasons
                      2020-21** at Illinois
                      sat out 2021-22
                      2022-23 at LSU
                      2023-24 at Az State
                      2024-25 at Az State
**but 2020-21 does not count against his eligibility (Covid year), so he has only exhausted 3 years of eligibility, and still has one more.)

His minutes, points and rebounds all went down this season over the year before, and if a new coach is hired, possibly he'd be looking
to finish his career elsewhere. Anyone else remember there were people posting (elsewhere) back when Adam Miller was IN 7TH GRADE,
that he was good enough back then, as a 7th grader, to be a star in the MVC. Now, here we are a decade later, and he's maybe the 5th or 6th best player
on the worst team in the Big 12. But still, I think I'd be surprised if Hurley gets fired, if for no other reason than they'd take a lot of criticism from
fans and from media who love the Hurleys.

Adam Miller would be another Trey Pettigrew. His attitude doesn’t match what Wardle is looking for in a player. Good player, but ego by far exceeds his talents

                          • wow- it's kinda common knowledge that a coach who is in his final year of contract with no extension will have an incredibly hard time recruiting, because nobody wants to go where they have a strong suspicion their coach will be gone next year. Possibly even the younger, talented players on the team could even look to transfer

Might be different now since every player is a free agent after every season anyway.

he’s 56-70 in 4 yrs there, was making $2 mil/yr, and has a buyout of $2.92 million. He was a UNI assistant 2008-12.
So the 1st Big Ten job opens…Mike Woodson at Indiana said he’d step down at the end of the season, but their season hasn’t ended yet.
