  • Former Bradley Brave Dodie Dunson now coaching in the MVC

Dodie Dunson is back in the Missouri Valley!
UIC women's basketball head coach Ashleen Bracey hired Dodie as an assistant coach-
Ashleen Bracey completed her coaching staff Friday (May 6), announcing that Dodie Dunson has joined the UIC program as an assistant coach.

Dodie has spent last seasons as an assistant for the Tulsa women's team, and was an assistant at UAB for the 3 seasons prior to that.

Speaking of Dodie, he was just hired as ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH of WBB at Evansville!!
    Congrats Dodie!

He will be a head coach soon - https://gopurpleaces.com/news/2023/5...T5M7noc2YgS4EQ

both UIC and Evansville finished under .500 in the MVC, but Evansville has a slightly larger WBB budget
($1.5 mil compared to $1.3 mil)
At UIC, the top assistant Mike Donovan has been with their head coach Ashleen Bracey for a decade and Dodie was the
next most experienced on the staff.
At Evansville, Dodie will be the top assistant at a program on the rise but with still a ways to go. Their new head coach,
Robyn Scherr-Wells, won more games in her first year (2021-22) that any Evansville team had won since 7 years earlier,
then this season they improved further to 11 wins.
Here's wishing great success there for Dodie.

DD is a great guy and this couldn't have been more well-deserved.

Question: Why would DD choose a career track as a women's coach? Was it just what was available for him initially so he stays on that career track? And, does this career path limit him (or make him less appealing) if he ever wanted to transition to a men's basketball coach?

I believe you just answered your question.

By the way, Dodie Dunson, Sr. (father of former BU player Dodie) has got to be proud of both Dodie and his brother Brandon Dunson.
Brandon has also risen up the coaching ranks, and this past year he was an assistant coach at Stanford University-
