If they are going to treat these kids like professionals, then it should be handled contractually between the university and the student, just like all other professional deals are made.
You are right. These entitled kids are getting into the adult world. They are going to have to deal with contracts, signatures, taxes, contract verbiage and agreements. They think they are just going to be able to walk up with their hands out and people are going to throw money at them

      • I wonder if he even had an agent to assist him.

Same thing has been happening in the NFL for decades now. Why wouldn't it happen in the NCAA now that the kids are being paid and schools are competing for the players? This was entirely predictable.

Tommy, I agree but the word on the street is that after his start this season that the family hired an agent. Guess what happened next? The agent told him he was worth more then what he got originally and so they told UNLV to pay more or he was leaving.

Now there are other UNLV players who are quitting the team, redshirting the remainder of the season, and transferring. It seems UNLV was shorting multiple players on the NIL revenue they were promised. - https://x.com/MichaelAllen8_/status/1839022017493791160

Question. I thought NIL was not supposed to be associated with the Universities

It is not supposed to have any connection with the schools. But the NCAA recently agreed not get into any enforcement of NIL regulations. So, now the lines are blurred and coaches seem to be openly talking to recruits about what they can earn and even making promises.

                  • How long before the football and basketball players demand collective bargaining and start striking in mid-season if they don't get the NIL money they think they deserve?
A mid-season, or pre-NCAA tournament strike by players for a team that has already sold tickets and gotten donations from fans could be devastating and cause chaos for college teams, not to mention cost those teams possibly millions of dollars in revenue.
