Free market works if you give it time. Let the big boys run up the price for the best recruits with each other. Half of them will not turn out as good as they were expecting anyway.

Mid-majors have always been at a disadvantage and that hasn't changed. My biggest concern is that I'll be rooting for an entirely new team every year, but this being the first year, I suspect it'll be the worst, and so far at least, we've only lost 2 players to the transfer portal. Now that mid-majors know this is how the rules work, they'll adjust their recruiting and hopefully find kids that are interested in sticking around. In a world of 8 billion people, there should be enough talent to go around and if the Tampa Bay Rays taught us anything it's that smart decisions can help you be successful without spending big time money. Let's just hope we've got some savvy guys making those decisions at BU.

I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.

Example if an athlete signs autographs in front of a store, Is $50 for 30minutes reasonable or is $500,000 reasonable. There needs to be some kind of regulation of this
Exactly the Supreme Court says they have to allow them to make money. So where would the authority to put a cap on it come from? That would be like saying that the government should be allowed to regulate business' income.

I wish I could give you an answer. I dont know how the fallout will be but right now it does not look pretty. I know one limitation that the athletes will have is the IRS. They will be expected to pay a certain percent of their earnings in taxes. Unless they take it out upfront they are going to be liable for taxes. I have heard some the athletes are already starting to hear from the IRS. Also I agree with what Tommy said earlier. They were doing this before just under the table. Now with this out in the open this may work to their disadvantage because of the IRS and pitting one Power 5 school against another. Thier may be some backlash from that

Oh I agree with the IRS issue. I think once these things are public, we are going to see everyone from athletes to handlers getting charged. The government always will get theirs.

I was just posting my thoughts on this transfer of Jawaun Newton from Evansville to SIU (in a different thread)-
                  https://www.bradleyfans.com/forum/sp...467#post503467

I wonder if Newton will be happy at SIU and how much playing time he'll get? He started every game and played 32 minutes per game this past season at Evansville. But he might not get that much playing time with SIU. They are pretty guard-heavy, and have a couple guys who like to take a lot of shots (Marcus Domask & Lance Jones were both in the top 7 in FG attempts/game in the MVC), plus other guards who get a lot of playing time (Ben Harvey, Trent Brown, Dalton Banks), plus their other transfer Xavier Johnson, who averaged over 30 min/game this past season at George Mason. That might be why their best 3-point shooter, Verplancken, transferred out.
But at least Newton will be playing for a better team.

That's a good point and one that is sure to have an effect on this whole transfer mess moving forward. I do believe this being the first year will be the worst and there will be a good many players that regret their decision.

Under Coach K, Duke virtually always got the recruits they wanted. Will that trend continue under Jon Scheyer?
                      My guess is yes.

Some of these schools will find that the big donations might start to dry up as those donors will start figuring out ways to give the money to the athlete themselves. Example: I own a business and I have been giving a million dollars to the athletic department of the school so now I give $250,000 to the athletic dept and, basically, hire 5 kids to make advertisements for me and pay them $150,000 each and, guess what, that school is now considered a power house. Can happen at the mid major level also. Look at all the money Wichita brought in from donors and had very good teams. Then moved into a conference with a bigger tv revenue.

Yeah, all we need is get someone like the Koch Brothers to help us recruit those 5 kids.

Bad news for Belmont... 2 of their best players, Grayson Murphy and Nick Muszynski, who both had entered the NBA Draft but retained the option to withdraw and return to college, have both announced they will pursue professional careers and won't return to school next season to use their additional year of eligibility. Both are longshots to be drafted.
                              https://twitter.com/JonRothstein/sta...85905865605121

Grayson Murphy was their 1st team All-Ohio Valley Conference point guard (he's made the 1st team All-OVC all 4 seasons he's been at Belmont). He started every game, and averaged 7.7 ppg, and team-leading 6.1 rpg and 5.8 assists per game. Nick Muszynski was also a 1st team All-OVC selection (he's made the 1st team All-OVC the last 3 seasons). He is a 6'11" center who started every game for Belmont, averaged 15.8 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 2.5 apg, and he shot 56% from the field.
Combined with graduation losses, it appears Belmont will return only 1 of their top 7 scorers from last year.

Isiaih Mosley, last year's MVC scoring leader from Missouri State, has committed to Missouri-
                                https://twitter.com/TiptonEdits/stat...24208660516865

He joins UNI's Noah Carter and former Bradley guard Sean East on next year's Missouri team playing for new head coach Dennis Gates.
One other interesting MVC/Bradley connection- Former Bradley DBO (from 2016-2019) Ryan Sharbaugh was hired by Dennis Gates, and is serving as Special Assistant to the Head Coach. Sharbaugh has spent the last 3 seasons as an assistant coach at Cleveland State under Dennis Gates.
