  • BIG 10 Tournament

Well, Illinois didn't last long. And today's game is a reason I think MVC Arch Madness is more exciting than the BIG 10 tournament.

So, Illinois loses in the first round. What does that change for them? My guess is they were a 4 seed going in and will be a 4 seed despite the loss because of the reputation of their talent. The loss is probably even a positive for them, since they won't be so banged up playing three games in the collegiate regular season's final three days.

And Indiana? Even if they had lost a close game to the Illini, they'd probably still have made the dance. Now they don't have to sweat.

Meanwhile, every game in Arch Madness, unfortunately, is do or die. You could tell that in the final minutes of Loyola-Drake. They left everything on the court.

Good luck to all mid-majors. Go slay Goliath..

So that brings us back to the question. Whats more important a 2 month regular season or a 3 day tournament?

Well because the conference did so poorly and missed most of their OOC opportunities to build resumes in November and December the last two months were really just for seeding Arch Madness. Hopefully going forward with the new additions we are looking at multiple bids and the conference slate being held in higher regard. If we don’t have good metrics (NET) going into conference play what we do against each other won’t be properly valued.
