  • Where will Loyola be seeded?

I see Joe Lunardi has them as an 11 seed today. Last year they were an 8. I know they lost Krutwig -- and I know some on this board are hoping they have an early exit because they're leaving the MVC -- but if I was a 6 seed I sure wouldn't want to draw the Ramblers. They are experienced, talented, and their defense can make you look bad.

The NCAA bigwigs have such short memories. This team was Sweet 16 last year. They were Final Four in 2018. I think based on experience they merit at least an 8. How about you?

I look forward to rooting for all mid-majors, especially Murray State and South Dakota State. Gotta love the Jackrabbits!

I agree with all you said Songwriter. Unfortunately, the way the NCAA screws the mid-majors, I'd be shocked if they were ranked higher than an 11 especially considering the fact that they finished 4th in the Valley.

We know how tough the Valley is, but if you're not a power conference you're lucky to get a single digit seeding. I think last year there were only 3 or 4 mid-majors with a single digit seeding, but hey, gotta get those 9 Big 10 teams in, right?

I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.

Loyola's NET rank today is 25. That alone would translate into a 7-seed. But there is no way they will get a 7-seed. The selection committee has always screwed the mid-majors- first by ignoring them when hand out at-large bids. Recall Missouri State was denied in 2005 with an RPI of 21, still an all time record. Also, Illinois State was denied in 2017 with a record of 27-6, 17-1 and co-champion of the MVC, and an RPI of 33.
And the selection committee screws mid-majors a second time when they seed them. Recall Wichita State in 2017 was a co-champion of the MVC, won the MVC Tournament, had a record of 30-4, and 17-1 in the MVC, and an RPI of 29. They were assigned a 10 seed. And Loyola, the 2018 champion had a record of 28-5, and an RPI of 22, they received an 11 seed! All they did was sweep through the first 4 rounds beating much higher seeds and making it into the Final Four. In 2019, Bradley got a 15 seed (probably deserved- NET 176), but in 2021, Drake got an 11 seed (with an RPI of 34).

And Chris Reynolds, the new Chairman of the NCAA Division I Basketball Committee, is not likely to lobby to help Loyola's case much. I think they will get an 11 seed, though they probably deserve a 9 with that NET of 25, or at the very worst a 10.

Now I think next year Bradley should be a shoo in to the NCAA tournament then receive a bye all the way to the championship game..

I feel LUC will get a 10-seed. They will get slighted as always, but committee knows they are dangerous and could overthrow another #1 seed in 3rd round.
I think they try to avoid another possible upset to a #1 seed as happened last year (unless the committee doesn't remember that!)

Like DC said, Krutwig is gone, but I feel they are stronger (and a bit deeper) than last season. Maybe one of top 10 defensive teams in the country and a guy (Williamson) who has been to a Final 4 and Sweet 16.

I am very confident they make another good run this year, and I'd hate to be their opponent in 1st game!

That's a really great point, LB. It will be interesting to see if they put that much thought into securing an easy route for the 1 seeds. It certainly wouldn't surprise me!
