Evansville has parted ways with head coach Todd Lickliter and the entire staff, source told @Stadium.
My first BU hoops game was on 12/30/1963. My dad took me to watch the Braves defeat Arizona 67-59. He helped me get Coach Orsborn's autograph before the game.

They were waiting for their new AD to start before letting the HC go.

One important question surrounding the future of UE athletics was answered on Thursday. Another one is still unanswered.

I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.

This Evansville fiasco looks more like a TV Soap Opera than a once-proud college basketball program.
Todd Lickliter took over in a terrible situation in January, 2000 after Evansville fired Walter McCarty for sexual assault allegations.
In finishing out that scandal-plagued season (2019-20), his team went on to an 0-18 finish in the MVC, one of the worst seasons in Evansville and MVC history.
Then in his first full season, with an undermanned team, Lickliter guided Evansville to a better-than-expected tie for 5th place in the '20-'21Covid season.
But then this past season (2021-22), Evansville finished 10th again. Their fans wanted a change. Lickliter has been active recruiting and signed 5 new players, including a couple transfer portal players.
Just before the season ended, and it was expected Lickliter would be fired, instead, the Evansville AD Mark Spencer, gave Todd Lickliter a strong vote of confidence-

            https://www.tristatehomepage.com/spo...fans-patience/

2 weeks later, Spencer made a surprise announcement that he was resigning-

            https://gopurpleaces.com/news/2022/3...athletics.aspx

A month later, they named a new AD, Kenneth "Ziggy" Siegfried-
Dr. Kenneth “Ziggy” Siegfried named UE Director of Athletics
            https://gopurpleaces.com/news/2022/4...athletics.aspx

Ziggy didn't waste any time. 2 weeks into his term as AD, he fires Lickliter and his entire staff-

The fact that Evansville has parted ways with Lickliter is not so surprising, considering how they finished this season. But the way this has played out, on top of the McCarty scandal, is more embarrassment for the once highly successful basketball program.

Speculation that they might be targeting Butler assistant David Ragsdale-

FWIW, Jeff Goodman, who was the first to report the firing of Lickliter, reports that Tom Crean might get consideration-

Whoever they hire, they'd better do an extensive background check, and interview as many people who have worked around the candidate as possible. They absolutely need to get it right this time.

Jeff Goodman is also highly critical of this firing, especially the timing, calling it "complete BS"-

I think they would have been better off letting Lickliter handle this season and the re-evaluate. It is going to be tough for any new coach to build a roster at this point, so it may be a lost season regardless.

Apparently they held a news conference this afternoon and stated they hired a search firm and conduct a national search. A national search starting May 5 ??? Better last about 5 minutes or they may have to find intermural players to fill out the team. I understand it is most important to get the right person but geez this is a late start. I really want to see them become competitive again but pencil them in for 12 th place next year (or maybe make that with a pen not a pencil).

The are hiring a firm named TurnkeyZRG to conduct a national search. This is the same search firm they used to hire the new Athletic Director-

One of their recent transfer-recruits, Matthew Ragsdale, has already announced he is reopening his recruitment-
                    https://twitter.com/jakelieberman2/s...28955860135936
Ragsdale, a 6'4" junior guard who has 2 years of eligibility left, averaged a team-leading 21.5 ppg and shot 36% from three this season at Western Colorado University (Division II).

This late change also affects all of the assistants. Though the terms of Todd Lickliter's contract at UE have never been made public, he almost surely has at least a couple more years that he will get paid for. But assistant coaches generally work under 1 year deals that are renewable each season. That leaves Lickliter's entire staff out of a job, with almost no chance of finding another job for the upcoming season.

Horrible move for Evansville, Lickliter and staff should have been fired at the end of the season if they were going to fire him and not two months later. At this point you might as well have given him next season to see if he can get something going, one less year to buy out too.

I don't see how this helps their program other than making their new AD "feel" like he is doing something. So they are going to have to scramble to find a coach and put together a team before time runs out? Sounds like a bad way to build a foundation of a program.

This AD is not a Director of athletics. He is a "hatchet man"
