Anyone Notice MURRAY STATE # 23 - LOYOLA # 33 - In Current AP Top 25

So I just noticed this. Murray State is # 23 in the current AP Top 25 - while Loyola is # 33. This is great - If Murry State makes it to the Big Dance then it will be like the Valley has 2 teams in NCAA Tournament. And if another team wins the Valley Tournament - not Loyola - then it will be like 2 teams returning next season that made it to The Dance. All of this will only "bolster" the Valley starting next season. Here's to Murray State doing very well this tournament season.

Yes, Murray State will be a good addition to the MVC. They are 20-2 on the season, and one of their two losses was at #1 Auburn. I think they are a more talented and complete team than Loyola, and they have better depth. Their NET ranking is 28, and RPI is 41. It would be higher, except playing in the OVC gives them a lousy Strength of Schedule (240).

They are only have 2 players who will be gone by the time they join the MVC, only one of them is a starter, and they both average less than 5 ppg. So, if everyone returns, they will have a very talented team next year, as well. They have a possible NBA quality big man, K.J. Williams, who leads them in scoring (17.2) and rebounding (8.6), and who will be a 5th year senior next year if he chooses to return for the extra season. He's been All-OVC 1st team the last 2 years, and looks likely to the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year this season.
