UNI Head Coach Ben Jacobson released this statement today-
Trae Berhow and Tywhon Pickford are both 5th year "super seniors", who took advantage of the extra year of eligibility. So they have no more eligibility and will not be back.
But it's interesting that Coach Jacobson also mentioned Austin Phyfe and A.J. Green. It may mean nothing, but...
This is Phyfe's 5th year at UNI. He has played 4 seasons and took one redshirt year. But the NCAA Covid rule would allow him to return for another season, if he chose.
A.J. Green's case is different. This is Green's 4th year at UNI. But, he has played in only 3 seasons and redshirted one (2020-21). So Green would potentially have 2 more seasons he could play, if he chose to return for his 4th season of eligibility next year (2022-23) and then for his Covid extra season (2023-24).
Jacobson's statement might be a hint that one or both of these guys might not be returning.
