The weekly awards will not be announced until later this afternoon, but here is my speculation....
Only 3 teams went undefeated in their games this past week (MSU, BU, and Valparaiso),
MVC records this week
MSU 2-0
BU 2-0
VU 2-0
DU 2-1
LU 1-1
SIU 1-2
UE 1-2
ILSU 1-2
UNI 0-2
INSU 0-2
Looking at the stats....
Player of the Week looks like a slam dunk for Isiaih Mosley- he had 24 points in just 19 minutes in Missouri State's 88-63 blowout win over Illinois State last Wednesday, then had 40 points and 8 rebounds in MSU's 79-69 upset win at #22 Loyola Saturday to break their 30-game home winning streak.
Rienk Mast will get strong consideration for his 17 point, 8 rebound game in Bradley's 83-71 road win at Drake and his 20 point, 9 rebound game in Bradley's 70-62 win over SIU. But I think Mosley will win this week's award.
Newcomer of the Week would go to Bradley's Terry Roberts if I was making the choice. He had 18 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and just 1 turnover in 29 minutes in Bradley's 83-71 road win at Drake. Then Saturday, in Bradley's 70-62 win over SIU, Roberts had 18 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists, and again just 1 turnover in 28 minutes. Two fantastic performances in big wins over teams who were picked above Bradley in the preseason poll.
However, maybe because Terry has won the award 3 times already, I think the award will go to another "newcomer" who had two pretty good games. It's hard to consider a 5th year senior as a "newcomer", but Kevion Taylor of Valparaiso is a transfer who played 4 seasons at Division II Winona State before transferring to Valparaiso this season for a 5th year. He helped lead Valparaiso to 2 wins this past week. Taylor had 22 points, 3 rebounds, and 0 assists in 41 minutes in Valpo's 83-80 overtime win against UNI. Then he had 17 points, 3 rebounds, and 0 assists in 37 minutes in Valpo's 75-73 win at Indiana State.
