One more coaching problem.......never have Ville and Hickman on the court at same time. When they are on court together you have 2 defensive liabilities, 2 bad ball handlers when pressured, and 2 bad passers when pressured.
I dont think the negatives are as bad as you think.Ville is not as good defensively as Connor. He had a hard man to guard last night. So did Connor. I rememeber one thing Divid Thirdkill said about his defensive theory. You are not going to stop a good scorer. they are going to get their points. You have to stop there runs. Instead of 6 or 8 points hold them to 2 or 4. Another thing to think about. Usually a team has their top defensive ace for 3 point shooters. Then is drops off quite abit. So when you have to 3 point shooters on the court at the same time it throws the other team into a defensive quandary. Thats why when Nate was a senior he got their top defensive specialist and that left Ville free to have good games. Nate is gone now so guess who gets their top defensive 3 point specialist. But you put Connor in at the same time now what does the opposing team do. Cant leave them both open
Guys, as much as I want to win every game we have to remember we are the youngest team in the league. we are starting 2 JC transfers, 2 soph, and a freshman. That is a pretty young group plus the bench players don't change that a lot other then Howell & Boya. The rest of bench are mainly freshmen and sophomores.
Was I disappointed in Sundays game? Definitely, but other teams have had bad games also and not always been this young. .
This team has grown a lot and will grow even more before March in St Louis.
As for Hickmon playing bad D goes he may be a partial liability but also plays smart enough that he doesn't get caught in traps very often. He will be OK as he learns and the one thing I really like about CH is he wants to win and will do whatever it takes to accomplish that goal.
We may have some more hiccups along the way but every bad game will be a learning curve and remember 8 of our top 10 players all come back next year.
This would be the sort of game we would win after a couple super disappointing losses.
Wow - what a a call!!!
In my head I was thinking (after going up by 10 in 1st half), if we only lose by 5 I wouldn't be that disappointed. We covered that and THEN some!
GREAT response by this young team and KUDOS to Wardle and staff for getting the boys prepped and confident to steal this one!
We don't do well in Des Moines. Last win I can recall at Drake was Crouch's game-winner (when Drake was ranked in the Top 20 in that magical '08 season).
Good win....biggest difference tonight....no 5 minute stretch going scoreless. Bradley had an answer for every run by Drake.
Also Kudos to the Drake announcers who had knowledge of the players and were not complete Homer's. Found them enjoyable to listen to.
Fantastic win! Emmenecker is a good announcer for the Valley, as is Marcus Wilson (former UE standout in late 1990s). Enjoyed watching Adam have a memorable senior season a decade ago and enjoy his analysis and commentary now.
Great win. Roberts and Mast are looking excellent, they are all conference players.
If we play like this I don't think anyone in the Valley can beat us. We have seen the potential this year, it is nice to finally beat a decent team on the road.
Love this post, BUfan17!
These 2 BU studs are just that. Tough combo to stop and both great rebounders. Lookin' like the Stockton-Malone combo lately, but Reink can hit the 3-ball and Roberts can dunk!
I am calling that 1 of our guys makes Valley 1st team honors (which we'll need to finish Top 5 likely) and the other makes 2nd.
Roberts is on track for Newcomer of the year and Hickman (who I've been psyched to become a Brave since we signed him) will be on Freshman All-Valley team.
Another solid game by Mr. Leons - all the little things he does won't show up on the stat sheet. He really give us a lot.
