Northern Iowa (4-6) is playing another tough game against Wyoming (9-2) in the consolation bracket of the Diamond Head Classic (5:30 pm Central time on ESPNU). UNI losttheir opening round game Wednesday 76-74 to Liberty.-

So UNI is 0-2 in the Diamond Head Classic, and 4-7 overall. They will play in the 7th-8th place game on Saturday morning against the loser of the South Florida-Hawaii game. Wyoming lead by as many as 13 points late in the 2nd half, but UNI tried to make a late comeback that fell just short. MVC Preseason Player of the Year A.J. Green had his second bad game in a row. He scored 5 points and was 2-9 overall, and 1-5 from three. He is just 1-10 from three in the 2 games in Hawaii.
UNI was without starter Trae Berhow who did not make the trip to Hawaii due to a non-Covid illness.

UNI was down 65-52 with 4:00 left but UNI came all the way back and had a chance to tie or win it at the buzzer but Bowen Born missed a point blank shot. Nate Heise had 19 points and 8 boards for the Panthers and Austin Phyfe had 18. As said previously A. J. Green had a bad game as he was just 2-9 from the field and fouled out with :24 left. They next play Hawaii on Christmas Day.

I have heard that Connor Hickman's ankle sprain is getting better, and he could be OK to play next Wednesday against Bellarmine,

Another tough break for UNI. They were scheduled to play one more game Saturday at the Diamond Head Classic against host team Hawaii in the 7th-8th place game.
However, the University of Hawaii team had to withdraw from the tournament, and the game was cancelled due to a Covid outbreak among the Hawaii team-
