  • BU Braves 2021-22 team - Searching for an Identity

It's an odd feeling - since Wardle took over, Bradley has had some identity from the start of the season.
Even last year there was an energy on the team from the start.

Something is missing and it hasn't been exciting to watch our guys yet...not really even a little.
Don't get me wrong - I love our guys, but there is not much spark except perhaps Mast.

We are playing hard - very hard...rebounding well at least. That should be a staple this year.

I'd love to see the newcomers gain confidence like the newcomers did last year out of the gates.
We need a couple games where the shots fall and I think we'll see our team's identity. I don't think we're taking low %% shots most possessions.
We could be an abysmal team in a month, or much better.

One things' for sure - we need to shoot better from 3 cause taking 20+ shots per game and only hitting 25% is going to result in many, many losses.

I am far from optimistic for this squad. However, I am withholding judgment until we get through the non-conference schedule. There are a bunch of new players on this team. Last years team didn't truly experience crowds. It will take some time to truly see what this team looks likes. We need to remember that the 18-19 team started the conference slate 0-5.

I have thought from the beginning this team was going to take time to gel. Too many new pieces. I hope they become a dangerous team to play by the end of the season. But I expect struggles for a little while. We basically have an all new backcourt.

With the COVID restrictions last year that really limited BW's ability to coach and practice, along with the sex scandal in Missouri, I consider last season an enigma and something I'd like to forget. Let's give BW a chance to coach this new team for a while and see what happens. I have enough confidence in him to think that they are going to be pretty good come tournament time, though in fairness they are a young team in a year where there are 5 year senior holdovers due to the COVID season allowance, and we did not benefit from that this year, so that will no doubt allow our competition to be tougher than they may have been otherwise.

Needless to say, I hate the additional year and we've already discussed some of the issues it creates. Since we're such a young team, I think long term it will pay off for us as the extra year drops off as our younger players should get more experience than young players on teams with a lot of carryover extra-year seniors.

Can't overestimate how much last year screwed up everything from chemistry to recruiting. Wardle will get this ship righted, but it's going to take time and patience.

I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.
