  • Kansas player fails sobriety test & is arrested for DUI; Bill Self to wait for "rest of the details"

After Kansas played a closed scrimmage game Saturday afternoon, Jalen Wilson, possibly Bill Self's best player, was arrested for DUI at 2:16 am Sunday. Wilson is just 20 years old, under the minimum drinking age of 21.
Instead of disciplining or suspending his player, Bill Self did what you'd expect. He released a non-committal statement about "the incident" that says:
“We are aware of the incident involving Jalen Wilson last night, and are disappointed in his decisions,” Self said. “We are looking into the situation as we speak and will determine potential consequences with him once we have the rest of the details.”

Note that their opening game on Nov. 9 is against Michigan State, so Self is probably trying to figure a way to avoid a suspension, at least until after that game. If there is a suspension, it might open the door to a bit more playing time for Drake transfer Joseph Yesufu, who transferred to Kansas after last season. With a lot of returning talent and a deep Kansas team, Yesufu has been projected to be a deep reserve.

Was Bill Self with him when he got arrested. Maybe he was buying drinks for the team?
