UIS played a preseason exhibition last night (Wed., Oct. 27) at Western Illinois, where they hung close, but lost 90-82 to WIU-

No stats are available, but the above article quotes WIU head coach Rob Jeter saying, "They shot lights out... we can’t give up threes late.”

UIS does not have much size. They have only one player on their roster taller than 6'7", and that's a 6'10", 267 lb. 2nd year freshman from St. Louis who played in only 9 games last season and averaged 0.6 ppg and 0.0 rpg..
9 of the 15 players on their roster are listed as freshmen (some are listed as 2nd year freshmen). They have 3 sophomores, one junior and two seniors.
    UIS Roster- https://uisprairiestars.com/sports/m...ketball/roster

Their leading returning scorer is 6'1" 3rd year guard Chase Robinson, who averaged 17.4 ppg last season as a sophomore. He shot 37.8% overall and 29.4% from three. Other returnees include 6'6" 2nd year forward Jack Weber, who averaged 12.4 ppg, 5'11" 4th year guard Trey Marble, who averaged 10.5 ppg and was their leading three point shooter at 38.8%. These three were starters last season, and will likely start against Bradley.
One other returning player is 6'6" senior G/F Jesus Castillo, who played in only 6 games and started 4. He averaged 4.5 ppg. No other returning player averaged more than 3 ppg or started any games last season.
Two transfer players will likely get significant playing time and may start. 6'4" 5th year guard Chris Hamill transferred from Rockhurst University where he averaged 13.1 ppg over 3 seasons and was one of the top 3-point shooters in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. And 6'5" forward juco transfer James Kelley who averaged 17.8 points and 7.0 rebounds a game at Southwestern Community College over his 2-year career, and was a good 3-point shooter as well.

The Great Lakes Valley Conference released their preseason coaches poll, and upcoming Bradley exhibition opponent UI-Springfield finished surprisingly high in the poll. They tied for 2nd in the GLVC East Division just a couple votes behind #1 ranked University of Southern Indiana. UIS got 2 of the 5 first place votes, and USI received 3 of the 5 first place votes. The coaches in each division voted only for their own division.
The Drury University, University of Southern Indiana, and University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s basketball teams have been selected to win their respective divisions for the upcoming 2021-22 Great Lakes Valley Conference season, it was announced by the league office Thursday. The annual GLVC Men’s Basketball Preseason Poll was voted on by the league coaches and ranks the top-five teams in each of the three divisions.

The Bradley women lead McKendree 52-39 at halftime, but McKendree was with 5 points midway through the 3rd quarter. Then the Braves started to pull away. They stretched their lead to 26 points in the 4th quarter, and the subs held on for a final score of 101-75

Connor Hickman with the first 5 points, then Terry Roberts with a bucket for a 7-0 early lead.

Fun game to watch. Terry Roberts does so many things when he's on the floor. He is super quick, can get to the basket, or get the mid-range jumper, or set up someone else. he had 7 assists, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals, along with 6 points. Malevy Leons with a quiet 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals, and great defense by both players.
Rienk Mast was terrific. 18 points in 24 minutes, 6 rebounds, and 4-7 from three.
Jayson Kent was solid, with 12 points in 20 minutes, and Connor Hickman stood out in the first half, and ended with 14 points.
Henry played a solid game defensively, and when he was moved back inside in the 2nd half, had several good offensive moves to the basket. And Darius Hannah in just 12 minutes had 8 points and a team-leading 8 rebounds. He unfortunately had several layups roll around the basket and drop out in the first half or he would have been well into double figures. Boya looked a little rusty, but everyone else contributed and looked good.
It was nice to see the other two freshmen, Zek Montgomery and Max Ekono, get in the game late and they both looked good.
The most impressive stats: outrebounding UIS 40-26, shooting 33-66 (50%), 11-25 from three (44%), 12 steals, and just 8 turnovers despite playing a more uptempo pace.

Glad to see a lot of player's scoring. Plus when Ville gets back we should have a good mix of player's putting up points. Hannah really contributed for the # of minutes played. Also a bonus to have a freshman Hickman come out of the gate so strong, shoulder must be getting back to normal.

Very encouraged by the guard play. Roberts looks to be a stud and everything we expected and Hickman as a freshman was just unbelievably fearless.

Leons does it all and his motor never stops (that's really the whole team) and I expect the effort of this team to be off the charts. I think they may struggle early as they learn how to play together as a team, but their defensive effort should help get them through it more quickly. My only concern is that the inside D looked rather weak, especially in the 1st half, but they seemed to make some adjustments in the 2nd, so hopefully that was just a learning thing.

Hannah played very little and was a rebounding machine. If he can ever learn to shoot, he'll be a nice option to have in the game when we need some boards!

Lastly, I mostly spoke about the new players here, but that's not to take away from anyone that wasn't mentioned. There were encouraging moments with all the players and I think this will be a really fun team to watch.

Really looking forward to the season!

I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.

Our team can't match up against a strong post player. Boya couldn't stop #15 and had 2 early fouls. Mast did better, but our team may need to double down the opposition's post player and hope to knock it away. But when the post player has 2 defenders on him, he will pass it out for an open look for a 3 point shot. I hope Boya stays healthy, out of foul trouble, and improves. Wardle will have to figure this weakness out. I was impressed with the energy this team showed and I believe our defense will help lead to some easy baskets.

I thought our point guard play was the best we've had in a long time. (Not taking anything away from DB as he wasn't a true PG but did an outstanding job handling it).
Howell and Roberts were both outstanding with some great no look passes.
Hickman showed vast improvement from the red/white game. Didn't really hurt us on D and showed why he was considered an outstanding shooter. Kent showed much improvement from last season. Looked very comfortable in the offense.
The guys up front except for Henry, Boya, and Hannah are more perimeter type players. Mast showed a willingness to battle inside more then last year which is a good sign. Still has a great shot.
Leons really showed a lot. A very quiet but highly effective game offensively and defensively.
This team has a lot of potential but might take time to gel together.
The thing I liked most last night was it was all team work. It didn't look like anyone player had to out do another player.

After reflecting on what I saw, here’s my most pleasant and encouraging surprise: a team full of many new and young guys, playing in basically their first game together, under a new system, against a physical team, playing up tempo ball… and we have SINGLE DIGIT TURNOVERS?

that was encouraging to me and speaks to the skill level as well as the bball IQ.

you can also really start to see the body type Wardle likes to have on the roster: long, lean, strong, swift.
                              Compete. Defend. Rebound. Win.
