  • Bradley wins first soccer game, 2-1

Bradley won their opening soccer match 2-1 at Shea Stadium last night over Lipscomb. In the other semifinal of the Holiday Inn City Center Classic, Eastern Illinois beat Belmont 2-1 in overtime. Bradley will play EIU for the championship tonight at 7:30 pm.

PEORIA, Ill. ? Shortly after Bradley narrowly missed on a flurry of chances in front of the Lipscomb net, senior defender Joe Donoho converted a penalty kick in the 77th minute, leading the host Braves (1-0) to a 2-1 victory versus Lipscomb (0-1) in front of a Bradley Soccer record crowd of 2,529 Friday night at Shea Stadium to cap the opening day of the Holiday Inn City Centre Classic. In what amounts to a Missouri Valley Conference-Atlantic Sun Conference challenge, Valley member Eastern Illinois opened the tournament with a 2-1 overtime victory against Atlantic Sun member Belmont.? The Panthers rallied from an quick 1-0 deficit and notched the winner in the 99th minute when Alex Harrison ran through the box to one-time a Brad Peters cross.

Nice game, nice atmosphere, and biggest crowd in Bradley soccer history,
over 2500. Bradley had several great offensive opportunities, with shots that repeatedly went off the posts, and one that just about everyone thought was in and out of the net, but was ruled deflected off the post. I would have loved to have seen a slo-mo replay of a couple of the plays in front of the Lipscomb goal, as I believe (like many there) that the ref missed a goal and at least one hand ball in front of the net. In the end (and maybe it was a makeup call) he did award a PK on a hand ball right in front of the goal, and BU netted it for the 2-1 winner.

I didn't see any of the BU basketball players, but the cheerrleaders were all there....

Bradley soccer goes to 2-0 with a win over Belmont.

Not as many people there, but still a decent crowd.
