The AP released their 2021-22 Preseason Top 25 poll yesterday-
The surprise is that among the "Others Receiving Votes" is one MVC team. But despite the fact that Loyola is consistently ranked #1 among MVC teams in all the analytic measurements and by virtually every blogger, it's Drake that was the only MVC team who received votes (4 votes) to rank in a tie for 43rd in the Preseason AP poll.
A couple other teams of interest- Illinois is ranked #11, but that places them 3rd behind #6 Michigan and #7 Purdue. Two other Big Ten teams were in the Top 25- Ohio State at #17, Maryland at #21, and Michigan State and Indiana were the first two in "Others Receiving Votes".
And Belmont, who joins the MVC in 2022-23, was also among "Others Receiving Votes". They received 7 votes, more than any MVC team (tied for 37th).
