  • TBT Game for the Ages- Bradley 75 Hoopville Warriors 73

Bradley fans were treated to a win tonight. What a turnout!
We played our hearts out, but didn't execute for most of the game. Braves took way too many 3s when they weren't falling and allowed too many offensive boards.

I really thought we were going to lose at various points in the 4th Q and when down 16 with a shade under 5, all but lost hope.

Just still in shock that the Braves pulled out that improbable win. This one (though maybe not as important) was on the level of our Brave comeback vs UNI in Arch Madness.

Hoopsters needed just 1 point for about 20 minutes straight. They obviously blew their chances, but our determination made the miracle happen in the end.

    Always a Brave movin' on!

POB hitting 3's and Gavin playing good were the biggest surprises for me.

I just re-watched the late part of the game.
          Here is a summary....

          > Bradley's last lead in regulation was 44-43 with about 3 min left in 3rd quarter.
          > It lasted about 10 seconds as the Hoopville Warriors came back down quickly, and drained a 3-pointer to re-take the lead 46-43.
          > Always A Brave trailed by one point, 48-47 with 2:14 left in 3rd quarter, but then Hoopville Warriors scored the next 9 points to take a 10 point lead (57-47) after 3 quarters.
          > Hoopville Warriors continued to score on almost every possession, and stretched their lead to 66-50 with 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter.
          > But then Always A Brave went on a run and scored 8 straight points to close to 66-58 with 3:51 left when a timeout was called and the Elam Ending Target score of 74 was set, and the clock was turned off.
          > Hoopville Warriors stretched their lead to 72-59, just 2 points shy of the Elam Ending Target of 74 points, but then they went extremely cold and never scored another basket.
          > Darrell Brown and Marcellus Sommerville scored 14 of the next 15 points (5 by Brown & 9 by Sommerville) capped by a pair of threes by Sommerville and Brown to bring Always A Brave into a tie at 73-73.
          > Then, Hoopville Warriors failed to score on their next 7 possessions, while Bradley failed to score on their next 6 possessions with the game tied 73-73.
          > Finally, a rebound of a missed shot by Darrell Brown and a long outlet pass to a breaking Sommerville lead to a layup that won the game 75-73.
          > From the point the clock was shut off and the score was 66-58, it took 30 possessions until the final shot ended the game.
          > Hoopville went 2 for their first 3 after the clock was stopped, plus they were 1-1 on FTs to take a 73-63 lead.
          > But from that point on, Hoopville went 0-12 from the floor, 0-3 on FTs, and had 6 turnovers to allow Bradley to score 12 straight points and come back and win 75-73.

If you just want to watch the most exciting part-
The Elam Ending starts at 1:19:00 (this is the most exciting part from here to the end)
Hoopville Warriors take a 73-63 lead at 1:26;00
Always a Brave ties the score at 73-73 at about 1:38:15
After a flurry of missed shots by both teams, AAB wins it just after 1:43:00 and a massive celebration ensues (worth watching!). Players, team members, and fans go crazy. What a stud Marcellus Sommerville is. If there is ever a TBT Hall of Fame, 'Cellus deserves to be in it!.

Wow! What a great game to be a part of! Just wow!

Marcellus signed my SI, too. Almost a perfect day!

                Thanks for this DC!
Great to have witnessed such a game…didn’t think we’d get to add a memorable game to the bank as Braves fans for a TBT 1st round game! Really like this team, though wish we had Donte available. He was the 1st to dogpile Cellus after the winning bucket.

                  Dude! No DOUBT!!
That was probably the longest time straight I’ve ever been so tense during a Braves game.
Hoopville seemed to be stuck on 73 for 20 minutes…and STILL stuck! LOL

                    Yes indeed.
DB and Nate held us together in scoring, but was good to see the Sweet 16 gang grind hard, especially late, to bring the miracle to fruition. Can’t say enough about TB’s stellar D down the stretch!

Let’s agree to not have any former Redbirds play for Always a Brave anymore!
I am not an ISU-red hater like many, but just doesn’t feel right.

Another great sight was watching how into the game our current Braves were. Many of them were out on the dogpile in the end.

also- I know Nate Kennel was just a young boy in 2006 and grew up watching BU games… wonder what it must have been like to share the floor with cellus and take such an important role last night. Really really cool stuff right there

I am definitely an ISU red hater, but after watching one of the most exciting games in my life and seeing the effort Odiakosa gave while in a Braves uni, I'm ready to declare him Always a Brave for life now. I'm a fan!

Re-watching the ending I think POB got away with a goal-tend when the score was 73-67. Anyone else see that and have an opinion? I figure the refs owed us a call anyhow!

Idk about the goaltend. What I do know is that in the Elam ending period, POB was a quiet hero. He found another level and had several blocks and adjusted shots. We don’t win last night without POB period.

I thought the same thing Tommy. That was an incredibly lucky win. One would almost think the opponent was throwing that game with all of their missed opportunities at the end of the game. Onward and upward Braves.
