BREAKING: Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski has decided to retire after this coming season, multiple sources told @Stadium. Official announcement expected soon. The leading candidate to replace K is assistant and former Duke player Jon Scheyer.

Coach K has very little else to prove as a head coach. He holds numerous coaching records and is already a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame (2001) and the College Basketball Hall of Fame (2006).
He is currently 74 years old, and he will turn 75 during this coming season (DOB 2/13/47).
His overall record as a college head coach is 1170-361 (73-59 in 5 seasons at Army and 1097-302 in 41 seasons at Duke). He was only credited with coaching the first 12 games of the 1994-95 season (his record was 9-3) because he took a leave of absence for the remainder of that season because of severe back pain problems following disk surgery.
He has won 5 National Championships at Duke (1991, 1992, 2001, 2010, and 2015). His win total of 1170 is already a career record for a college coach, and his 1097 wins at Duke are the most ever for a D1 coach at a single school-

Coaching at the highest college level can be a very stressful and taxing job, though Coach K has a lot of non-coaching assistants on the Duke staff that make his job a little easier. And, it's been reported that he does very little off-campus recruiting.

It will be interesting to see who replaces him. His Associate Head Coach Jon Scheyer seems like the most logical choice.
All three of his current assistants are relatively young and none have previous head coaching experience.
    His current assistants are-
Jon Scheyer - Associate Head Coach- 33 years old, and has been an assistant coach at Duke for 7 years
Chris Carrawell - Assistant Coach- 43 years old, and has been an assistant coach at Duke for 3 years
Nolan Smith - Assistant Coach- 32 years old, and has been an assistant coach at Duke for just 2 months

Duke assistant Jon Scheyer has been approved as the next head coach of the Blue Devils, succeeding Mike Krzyzewski, source told @Stadium. There was a mid-afternoon meeting just to rubber-stamp Coach K’s selection.
