Valparaiso junior preseason 2nd team All MVC big man Ben Krikke left the game early in the first half after playing only 4 minutes with a left ankle injury. He remained on the bench and never returned to the game and was wearing a boot on the left foot & ankle.
Ashland, a small private Division II school in Ohio, shot 61% overall (33-54) and 62% from three (13-21), and outrebounded Valparaiso 29-26. Valpo played their starters (except for Krikke) 30 or more minutes each. Sophomore guard Sheldon Edwards lead Valpo with 32 points. The Beacons got only a total of 4 bench points, all from 6th year player Eron Gordon.Comment

It seems a lot of schools try to follow the NCAA rules about not publicizing the results of their secret scrimmages. None of the MVC schools that played secret scrimmages put out any publicity, and none were reported in newspapers.
But here is another example of a school thumbing their nose at the NCAA and their rules with impunity. Providence played a secret scrimmage yesterday and beat Purdue. And since Purdue is a Preseason Top 10 ranked team, Providence appears to have wanted this result blasted all over the news and on the internet, so their beat writer for the Providence Journal posted a detailed report of the game plus a complete box score. The NCAA is a joke.-
