  • Loyola wins!- Loyola beats the ACC Champion Georgia Tech 71-60

The game remained fairly close until the final 5 minutes when Loyola's 3-point shooting stretched their lead out to 11 points, and they held on the win 71-60 over the Champion of the ACC, Georgia Tech.
Again, the MVC shows it is not just any ordinary mid-major conference. The MVC goes to 2-0.
Loyola shot 11-27 (41%) from three, and they outrebounded Georgia tech 30-18-

Nice win for the Ramblers! Some are saying this team is better than their final four team. Not sure about that but they are really really good when they are hitting the 3 ball.

MVC is 2-0. Big 10 is 1-2. I'm loving that. Congrats, Ramblers! Good luck tomorrow, Drake!

And yes, I heard the talking heads say this Loyola team may be better than the Final Four team. Well, the selection committee thought they were a Final 30 team when they gave them an 8 seed.

I also heard them say the tournament is proving again that seeds don't matter. I disagree. The power conference teams get the better seeds consistently, making the mid-majors like Loyola have really tough roads. In this case, the No. 1 seed in the second round. Seeds matter. The opening rounds, though, usually show that -- given a level playing field and a chance -- the mids can hold their own against the power conference teams that have all the funding, publicity, and recruiting advantages.

Loyola will be facing a tall task going up against Kofi, Ayo and the Illini. Since Illinois has been getting Kofi involved on the offensive end they've been playing their best basketball. The Ramblers won't back down though. This game will be a passing display. If Loyola can be in single digits with 5:00 to go things will get interesting. Can Krutwig guard Kofi without getting into foul trouble and can he operate like he normally does on offense against Kofi? He's such a smart, intuitive player but he's going to have his hands and body full of Kofi. About the only way a state school will get to face Illinois so go get em Ramblers.
