Joseph Yesufu is startin on fire for Drake as he's 4-4 from 3 and has 14 of Drake's 18 points. With 10:24 left USC leads 21-18. Their height is giving the rest of the Bulldogs problems on both ends of the court as USC is 10-15 from the field and have 2 blocks and a number of influneced inside shots.Comment

Drake right in the ball game down 40-37 at the half. Yesufu started the half 6-7 but missed his last 5 shots and has 18 points. Hemphill played the last 16 minutes of the half, which was probably about 6-7 minutes more than he was expected to due to some foul trouble for Drake, who have 3 players with 2 fouls. Drake outrebounded the bigger USC team 19-15 and had just 4 turnovers. Mobley for USC had 13 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks and many altered shots. Making FT's will be a key factor in this game as Drake, one of the best, was 6-7 while USC, one of the worst, was just 3-9.Comment

Drake has been outscored 11-3 in the 1st 6:00 of the second half and USC has their biggest lead of 11, 51-40. The Bulldogs are having a really hard time dealing with USC's height.Comment

Drake starting to wake up in the last 2:00 as they've forced 3 straight turnovers and on one possession they grabbed 3 straight offensive rebounds and are now down 51-44 with 11:56 left. Hemphill has not played yet in the 2nd half.Comment

6:53 left and Drake is barely hanging in there down 57-46. They are 3-24 overall this half and have had such a hard time running any kind of offense because of the height of USC. Many shots have been altered because of it. USC has been credited with 5 blocks but I think over 30 of Drake's 56 shots have been altered.Comment

A FT, a turnover and a Yesufu 3 has Drake down 7 with 6:28 left. Yesufu has 26 of Drake's 50 points. Hemphill has still not played this half.Comment

Drake not having Roman Penn available and a 100% Shanquan Hemphill available finally caught up with the Bulldogs as they lost to USC 72-56. Drake ends their season at 26-5 the 2nd most wins in school history. At one point the Bulldogs were 5-30 from the field in the 2nd half and ended up 20-68 overall, 7-23 from 3 and were 9-11 from the FT line. Yesufu had a game high 26 points on 8-22 shooting, 6-11 from 3. The rest of the team was 12-44 overall, 1-12 from 3. YSC was credited with 7 blocks but they contested and altered so many shots it made it difficult for Drake to have any kind of rhythm on offense. I don't recall if seniors Hemphill and Tremell Murphy are coming back next season but I expect them to be really good again next season especially since they are adding a 4 star recruit in the coaches son Tucker. Congrats to Drake on a great season!Comment

Tough to see Drake lose- USC 72 Drake 56. USC is really good with probably a couple NBA lottery picks on the team.
No Drake played scored more than 6 points, other than Yesufu's 26, and he cooled off a bit in the 2nd half.

Here is another tough way to get eliminated from the tournament.
The 1st round VCU-Oregon matchup Saturday was declared "no contest" after VCU had several positive Covid tests.
VCU was eliminated and Oregon advanced to the next round to play Iowa-

On last upset for Saturday. #14 seed Abilene Christian lead most of the 2nd half, but #3 seed Texas took a 1 point lead (52-51) with 14.6 seconds left. ACU player Joe Pleasant was fouled with 1.2 seconds left. Pleasant is a 58.8% free throw shooter, worst on the team, but he made both FTs to go ahead 53-52. A desperation heave by Texas with 1.2 seconds left was no good and Abilene Christian, the champion of the Southland Conference, pulls off another huge upset beating the Champion of the Big 12, Texas. They advance to play UCLA in the 2nd round.
