NCAA tournament star and Big Sky Player of the Year Tanner Groves has entered the transfer portal, sources told ESPN. Scored 35 points against Kansas in the first round for Eastern Washington. Averaged 17.2 points and 8.0 rebounds this season.

Tanner's brother, Jacob Groves, just entered the portal too. Had 23 points and nine rebounds in the loss to Kansas, averaged 9.3 points this season.
This is likely the future of mid-major basketball. Have a good game on the biggest stages, and head for P5 the following season. There has always been some element of this, but with the likely future of no sit out requirement, this will become more common.

Sad, but true. Every rule the NCAA comes out with is geared toward feeding the Power conferences.

I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.

Here is another surprise- Illinois State sophomore guard Antonio Reeves declares for the NBA draft-
          https://www.pantagraph.com/sports/co...1e0ec2997.html

He averaged 12.4 ppg, 3.3 rpg and 1.1 assists/gm. He shot 42.5% overall, 30.6% from 3-point, and 76.3% on FTs.
He will still be able to return to ISU if he withdraws before a deadline date the the NBA will set.

Now SIU has joined the list of MVC teams with a player in the transfer portal.
Freshman guard Eric Butler, who didn't play very much this season, has placed his name in the transfer portal. He played in only 8 games and scored only 2 baskets all season.

If he does transfer, and players can always pull out of the transfer portal and return to their school, this would be a blow to UNI for next season.
Per Twitter- Carter has withdrawn his name and will stay at UNI.

In addition to Noah Carter returning, several UNI seniors have confirmed that they intend to take advantage of the extra year of eligibility and return to UNI next year- Goanar Mar (grad-transfer from George Mason who missed much of the year with injury), Tywhon Pickford, and Trae Berhow.
Also, Antwan Kimmons, who left the team for personal reasons after appearing in only 3 games, plans to return next year.-

Indiana State guard Tobias Howard has entered the Transfer Portal. He was a junior college transfer who never played much and was in former head coach Greg Lansing's doghous much of the time this past season.

What happens if a player enters the Transfer Portal, the school offers the scholarship to a different player and the player that wanted to transfer decides to remove their name from the Transfer Portal. Does the school have to take the player back?

It is actually the player's school that enters the player's name into the Transfer Portal, upon his request. It is a big help to the player because every other NCAA school can see he is interested in transferring. It removes a lot of the work kids used to have to do for themselves when they wanted to transfer.
But the down-side is that once they enter the portal, the player's school can withdraw his scholarship at the end of that year. If the player withdraws from the portal, his previous school can take him back and restore his scholarship, if they want to. But it is the school's choice whether to take them back or resume the scholarship.

Here is a good page from the NCAA that explains a lot about what the Transfer Portal is and isn't-

Cooper Kaifes of Loyola has entered the transfer portal. He looked good as a freshman, then was out with a shoulder injury last year, and played sparingly this year.

Cooper Kaifes was on the MVC All-Freshman team in 2018-19. He was a part-time starter for Loyola and lead the team with a 46.5% from three. But while he was out in 2019-20, junior college transfer Keith Clemons and freshman Marquise Kennedy took over most of the minutes he would have gotten. And when he returned this year, there was even more competition at the guard spot with Braden Norris, who transferred to Loyola from Oakland. Norris became a starter and Kaifes never got much playing time.
Kaifes actually missed all of 2019-20 with a torn labrum in his hip, which is the same injury that A.J. Green had surgery for and will be trying to make a comeback with next season. It is not unusual for a basketball player to take a couple years to recover the fullest from that injury.

That Sy Chatman has already transferred about 3 times. I had heard one of the knocks on him coming out of high school was that he lacked a good work ethic
