  • Indiana State parts ways with Greg Lansing- to hire D2 coach?

Despite a pretty good year, Greg Lansing is out of a job.
Indiana State reportedly has parted ways with head coach Greg Lansing after 11 seasons.

How long before Tyreke Key enters the transfer portal?
Also, recall that Bradley recruited Jake LaRavia out of high school, and one of BU's needs is a big wing who can score.

Would a transfer within the conference be allowed without an additional year of sitting out.

I really like Laravia. He didn’t play well vs us, but he’s a pretty heddy player.

Seems like a bad move for Indiana State, he had the team competing in the top half the past two years after a few years of a slump. Not sure who else they could find for the same salary that would do better. Lots of schools are paying way more and getting way less (ISU red).

The MVC bylaws still require a 2-year "sit-out" period.
Check out Section 4.2 on page 12- MVC Bylaws- http://www.mvc.org/manual/bylaws.pdf

However, as the rules show, there is also a waiver process and an appeals process, so it's possible (though I wouldn't count on it) that with these unusual Covid times and the fact the NCAA is preparing to waive their sit-out rule, maybe the MVC might also waive this rule.

Yeah, it must be tough to get kids to come to Terre Haute. He's done a decent job with the kinda talent he has.
Not a spectacular job, but it's what you expect from Indy St. and maybe a little more.

Lansing is a good coach, but one of the knocks on him has been his recruiting. But they do have something in their favor- there is a ton of talent in Indiana, but Lansing has not been very successful at landing much of it. The majority of his scholarship players are from out of state. The Bradley coaches know that and spend a lot of time recruiting in Indiana.
But I think there is enough talent in the Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois area, supplemented with other recruits, for a coach who is a good recruiter, to build a successful MVC team.

Indiana State players Jake LaRavia (sophomore), Tre Williams (sophomore), Cobie Barnes (sophomore), and Jared Hankins (redshirt freshman) have entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. I suspect there will be more.

There are currently 291 names on the transfer list, but it will swell to well over 1000-

Wow - major rebuilding for Indy St. now. Wouldn't be surprised if they were picked #10 in preseason MVC poll.
Would be nice to get a kid like LaRavia if the rules would allow him to play right away.
If Childs comes back though, no real need for another big IMO. Lot of upside to Hannah and needs more PT next year to develop.

Never too many big men, though. Amiright!
                    Larry Bird
I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.

Yes you are! Just saying that Childs, Henry, Boya, and Laravia would not give Hannah much opportunity to play/improve.
I see Laravia being a smarter player (not by a ton) than Hannah, but Hannah being a more versatile scorer in the paint and better defender.

There are reports that Indiana State will hire Josh Schertz to replace Greg Lansing as head coach.
Josh Schertz is the head coach at Lincoln Memorial University, a Division II school in Harrogate, Tennessee.

He has been highly successful there and has an incredible record of 334-68 in 13 seasons. The LMU Railsplitters were 16-3 this season, and finished their regular season ranked #13 in the country in Division II. They are the #2 seed in the Southeast Regional of the D2 NCAA Tournament, which they will be hosting for the 5th time in the last 7 years. Prior to this Covid-shortened season, his teams had won at least 20 games for 11 straight seasons, and they have won 30 or more games in 6 of the last 7 seasons. This season is his 10th trip to the NCAA D2 tournament in the last 11 years.
