  • Roman Penn done

Matthew Bain @MatthewBain_ Per source: Drake point guard Roman Penn is out for the year with a broken foot. He'll undergo surgery and won't be back for any potential NCAA Tournament games. Joseph Yesufu, fresh off his career-best 32 points, will now be Drake's starting point guard. File this into the "Life isn't fair" category. They are so close to getting a bid. The Bulldogs have battled without Tank Hemphill, but without both of them? We'll see how they do against Evansville tonight, and then BU. Lose one of them, and that's all the committee needs. I know we've had our injuries and problems this year, but to be so close . . . I feel bad for Drake.

Early in the 2nd half of last night's game against Evansville, Roman Penn drove across the top of the key and suddenly had a pain in his left foot as he put his weight on it to turn toward the baseline. He fell to his knees off the baseline as play was stopped, appeared to be unable to put weight on his left foot, and had to be helped to the locker room. As I posted in a report last last on the game results, he later returned to the bench, was limping, and did not re-enter the game. The injury happened spontaneously and was not due to any contact.

If you have access to this replay of the game, it is just after the 1:09:30 mark on the video (17:22 left in 2nd half)

Tough luck for Roman Penn. He was having an All-MVC season.
