  • SIU leading scorer Marcus Domask out for 2 games against INSU with foot injury

SIU has announced that their leading scorer, and the MVC's 3rd leading scorer, Marcus Domask will miss their 2 games at Indiana State tonight and tomorrow (Jan. 25 & 26) with a foot injury. His status is week-to-week. Domask is averaging 16.3 ppg, 4.5 rpg, and 3.2 apg.
SIU is returning after their program was shut down due to Covid. They have not played a game since January 4.

In an interview with the Saluki's play-by-play radio broadcaster, Marcus Domask said he first felt something in his left foot prior to their game against Butler on Dec. 21. The pain went away, but has recurred and persisted. He is week-to-week-

This sounds a bit similar to Ari Boya's injury. Boya was also said to be week-to-week following the announcement of a similar non-descript foot injury on January 9, following a long layoff. He has now missed 6 games, with the 7th scheduled for tonight. Bradley had not played a game between the Dec. 22 game at Missouri, and the January 10 game at UNI, which was the first of the 6 games that Ari has now missed. There is no word if he (or Ja'Shon Henry) will play tonight, though it seems unlikely since he was in street clothes for yesterday's game.

Domask's announcement comes after SIU has had a similar long layoff. They have not played a game in 3 weeks, since a Dec. 4 loss at Drake. After starting their season 7-0, SIU lost 3 in a row prior to their 3-week layoff. They play tonight (6 pm) and tomorrow afternoon (4 pm) at Indiana State.
SIU plays at Bradley on Saturday, Feb. 6 and Sunday, Feb. 7.

And SIU still almost won. I think Mullins is a really solid coach.

Coach - in your expert opinion, do you think Boya has a stress fracture? As you pointed out, he sure has sat out for a long time.

I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.

I don't know, so I am not speaking as someone with any knowledge of Ari's specific case.
But, the longer the foot pain continues, the more likely it is that a doctor begins to suspect a stress fracture. Let's hope not, since stress fractures need a longer time to heal and sometimes need surgery to place a pin to limit the tiny movement of the bone sections. Stress fractures can be tiny cracks that are imperceptible on X-rays or even MRI scans early in their course, and they can be hard to diagnose early on. The symptoms (pain, stiffness) may be identical to soft tissue problems like tendinitis or fasciitis. Eventually, it will show on an MRI scan after new calcium starts getting built up around the crack. I suspect Ari has probably already had x-rays and scans, and those will probably be repeated if things aren't getting better.
