Spring 2021 National Letter of Intent signing period extended

The spring National Letter of Intent (NLI) signing period has been extended. This was done presumably to allow for more time to evaluate recruits and sign them, since the Covid pandemic has eliminated most of the ways recruits get evaluated by coaches.
The spring signing period is usually a 5-week period starting the 3rd Wednesday of April. This year it was originally scheduled to run from April 14-May 19.
Now it will start April 14 and run until August 1, 2021.

With this year allowing seniors to have it not count toward eligibility, a number of them will certainly return. I can’t remember... perhaps it’s true for all the players regardless of class. Anyway, can’t help but think this will have a huge negative effect for incoming freshmen and younger recruits who’s playing time will be clogged out and somewhat surpressed their whole career.
